Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all:
What does that mean?
Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Please try removing the Z: from your index:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the NTFS tab on the left.
- Select Z:
- Click Remove.
- Click the Folders tab on the left.
- Select Z:
- Click Remove.
- Click OK.
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Sorry, why remove it? I need that catalog / volume / index / file list of Z:.
But why is Everything indexing it although it is not plugged in?
But why is Everything indexing it although it is not plugged in?
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Everything is most likely re-indexing another drive.
It should timeout after 1 minute and keep your old index.
Does Everything do this every time it is started?

Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Sorry, I never paid attention to it. It automatically closed / crashed before, obviously because of missing memory (error message), then I started it again.
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Indexing Z: means Everything is reindexing.
It also means the existing index of your Z: drive is being used (Everything is not trying to read your offline Z: drive).
It may take a few seconds for Everything to reindex your Z: drive.
Is Everything reindexing every time it is started?
Is Everything still crashing?
Please try starting Everything in debug mode:

Please try starting Everything in debug mode:
- Please make sure Everything is not running.
- Start Everything with -debug
Everything.exe -debug - What is shown in the debug console when Everything starts reindexing? or when Everything crashes?
- Please send debug output to support@voidtools.com
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Yes yes, that is what I guessed, but I wondered why it can index a drive not being plugged in.Indexing Z: means Everything is reindexing.
On this Notebook it takes minutes, may be five, ten or more. But, why is it possible to reindex a drive not being plugged in?It also means the existing index of your Z: drive is being used (Everything is not trying to read your offline Z: drive).

Sorry, I usually do not pay attention to that. But as far as I could see / remember it is. The last time I watched Everything starting, it obviously went through all of the drives / indexes and after a few seconds or so, checking whether it is plugged in or not, I assume, it went on but at Z: it kept stucking obviously. Is Everything reindexing every time it is started?
No, at the moment Everything seems to run like usual. But I assume the crash(es) was / were caused by the poor performance of this Notebook. Is Everything still crashing?
OK, I will do it at the next occasion when Z: and / or N: is plugged in again. Please try starting Everything in debug mode:
Re: Everything shows it indexes Z: although Z: is not connected at all?
Everything will reuse the existing index of your Z: drive. But, why is it possible to reindex a drive not being plugged in?
There is most likely an issue here as you mentioned Everything is getting stuck indexing the Z: drive.
Reusing the existing index of your offline Z: drive should be instant.
Debug logs should show the issue.
