Everything holds up Windows shutdown
When I try to shut down my laptop (Surface Book 2 with Windows 10) Everything holds up the shutdown because it takes so long to close. I often have to stop it manually before I can shut down. Is this a common behavior?

On system shutdown, Everything will save your settings to disk and save your index to disk.
This should take less than a second, depending on how many files you index.
How many files is Everything indexing? -When the search is blank, how many files are shown in the results?
Everything will process any file system changes before saving you index to disk.
This may take a very long time.
Are you making many changes to your file system?
Please make sure you are not using the compress database option:
In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
/debug_log
This will put Everything in debug mode and log debug messages to %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt
Shutdown your PC.
Restart your PC.
What is shown in your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt ?

Please make sure you are not using the compress database option:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Index tab on the left.
- Uncheck Compress database.
-While this setting will make the database smaller on disk, it will take a very long time to compress the database. I recommend leaving this setting unchecked. - Click OK.
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the General tab on the left.
- Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
- Uncheck Run as administrator.
- Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
- Click OK.
- Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
- Restart Everything.

Re: Everything holds up Windows shutdown
I have changed the settings as instructed and will see how it goes. I had the database compression turned on so maybe that will help.
I have 32 million objects indexed
