Sort Multiple Columns

Post by koolestani »

Hi
Is the ability to sort multiple columns there in everything?
An example for the same
https://steamdb.info/sales/
You can see the message "Hold shift to sort multiple columns" and it works beautifully, I have actually came across situations where its needed in search everything.
If you think about it we are always "using" sort multiple columns feature in a rigid way.
The first way of sorting is the column we choose to explicitly sorts the results by.
The second way of sorting is always filename, we don't have a way to change this behavior yet.

Secondary sort is on the to do list for the next major release of Everything, version 1.5.
In the current version of Everything (1.4) that is not yet possible.

The release date of Everything 1.5 is unknown at this moment.

This would be pretty useful feature, I have several times needed everything to return results based on launch count, but if launch count is zero or same for a number of files then I want the last modified file on top...

Secondary sorts are in development.
Thank you for the suggestion.

If you would like to try this now, please try the Everything 1.5 alpha

Wow!! this is exactly what I was looking for, my only issue is that it doesn't stay applied after closing and re-opening.

Hello!

thanks for a great software!
it saved me a lot of time!

but still advanced sorting not working (

when i choose "Date modified" and then "Size" the results doesn't changes
i use latest 1.5a

----
update:
i figured out, that to sort within a day you have to add column "_Day_ modified", but not "Date", which has an exact time with second accuracy and prevent to achieve the goal )

so my feature request is reduced to include "Day modified" in index to speed up sorting

thanks again for great software!

I will look into making Day modified faster.
Thank you for the suggestion.

For now, you can index Day modified under Tools -> Options -> Properties.
Check Fast Sort.

Everything 1.5.0.1384a will now use day modified and time modified from the indexed date modified value.
