About diacritics

Hi everybody, I'm running version 1.4.1.935 (x64) on Windows 7 SP1.

I have this filter as my default filter :


As you can see, the "Match diacritics" checkbox is UNCHECKED.
However, for some reason, it doesn't work :

• If I type "téléchargements", Everything Search finds my "Téléchargements" folder.
• However if I type "telechargements" it doesn't find it.

Could somebody please help ? Thanks in advance.

Found why !

It was because "Enable RegEx" was selected.

If you want to match diacritics, then shouldn't you have the checkbox checked, not unchecked?
And yeah, regex is ascii until you specify one of the unicode flags.

I do have my own diacritics question, though, to ask of Mr. Void. Why do the default Filters have Match Diacritics checked, when it exists as a global option (Ctrl+M). Shouldn't the global option be respected, instead of being overridden by Filters, by default? Seems like a strange design, unless I'm just not understanding how diacritic matching works.

Regex may have been playing in, but...


If you Match Diacritics then é & e are treated separately.
If you want to find é or e, then you should uncheck Match Diacritics.

Or you could check Match Diacritics & search for each possibility separately:
