Greetings, Voidtools
I love Everything; it has become an essential part of my PC workflow. I have, however, experienced an annoying problem ever since I started using it; I've figured it must be some setting that I need to change but can't for the life of me find.
Here's the situation:
1. I copy a web address (or some other text string)
2. I press Ctrl+Alt+Space to open Everything and find my Notes.docx or Notes.txt
3. I navigate to it with my arrow keys and press Enter/Return to open it for editing.
4. I press Ctrl+V to paste the web address/text string into the now-open document
5. Instead of pasting the string I copied, it pastes the folder path of the document, which has replaced the web address in my clipboard.
I don't know if this is a bug, or a setting, or intended operation, but is there a way to stop Everything from copying the path of a file opened with the Enter key? (NB this does not seem to occur 100% of the time, and doesn't seem to happen if I use the mouse to open the document for editing)
EDIT: Just thought I'd clarify: I have no hotkeys set for "Copy Path to Clipboard", but that's what it seems to be doing 90% of times I press Enter to open a file.
Everything copies path when I open file
Re: Everything copies path when I open file
Do you have QuickLook installed?
QuickLook is known to copy the current selection (=filename including path) to the clipboard.
Unfortunately, there is no workaround available (other than uninstalling QuickLook and enjoying the full power of Everything )

That'll be it. I do have QuickLook installed. Thank you for helping me to narrow it down. I'll have to figure something out.

If you do, please let us know! There are more people using both programs and thus with the same issues.
Anyway: good luck!

Re: Everything copies path when I open file
I think the latest nightly build of QuickLook has fixed the copypath issue: https://github.com/QL-Win/QuickLook/issues/593
From what I read on the GitHub issues, it was copying path when pressing enter, when it should only have been copying the path when pressing space (and it copying paths is the reason it works with Everything, whereas 1218.io's Seer does not, or something like that).

Well done, Darthagnon! Thanks for letting us know!
For others reading this: the most recent nightly build (618 at this moment) can be downloaded here.
I can confirm that it works in combination with Everything (I tested the portable version).

Re: Everything copies path when I open file
Quick update: QuickLook v3.6.6 release seems to break this again - it's back to copying the file path of items in Everything. Here's the last working nightly build (build 618 / QuickLook-3.6.5-37-g2d8a38f) I was able to grab, that should work fine with Everything until it's fixed:

Here's the direct build 618 link (NB this will expire and disappear in about 6 months)

EDIT: Here' the QuickLook GitHub issue I opened to discuss this:

Re: Everything copies path when I open file
I'm thinking my most recent issues with Quicklook overwriting folder paths when used with Everything...
...must have been caused by having a Quicklook window open (and hidden) in the background somewhere (which can sometimes happen, when the user forgets about it, or doesn't dismiss it, or "pins" a Quicklook window). Upon searching Everything and navigating with the arrow keys to the target file, Quicklook would update with previews of the highlighted files, but in the background, out of sight. This would result in the clipboard being overwritten, without any prompt.
Workaround: I need to make sure to dismiss Quicklook windows, so they don't stay open in the background and overwrite my clipboard.
The latest Quicklook is good (I'm using v3.6.7, but latest is 3.6.9, probably good, too).
