Right-Click Search Option Missing

Post by koabloom »

Hi, ive been very reliant on the "everything software" to search through my nearly 2TB of files and information to get alot of my daily work done. I need a bit of help and guidance to understand how exactly to re-enable the option that allows me to simply right-click in any one of my folders and the "Search Everything..." option would appear. I recently re-installed the software and the option that used to appear is now missing and i cant seem to find a way to fix it. I couldn't find any videos on how to fix this problem either, and i already tried searching through the FAQ section aswell. Please respond asap, thank you!

Edit : I am going to add attachments to further assists with understanding. (The photo shows the option I DO NOT HAVE)

That is a setting: Show Search Everything folder context menu item.
You can find it under Menu:Tools > Options > General

Yes, I have faced this problem too.

The folder context menu works only if I click ON a folder, not inside the empty space of a folder. It used to be like the picture you attached, but now its gone. Please add the feature back.

This issue might occur if you set Everything to run as an administrator.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly (and not running as an administrator):
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
After applying any changes above..
When Everything is running as a standard user..

To enable the Search Everything... folder context menu item for folders and when right clicking inside a folder:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab
  • Check Show Search Everything folder context menu item (please make this is tick-checked and not square checked)
  • Click OK.
If the Search Everything... folder context menu item is still missing could you please send some information about your registry:
  • From the Start menu, search for regedit
  • Click Registry Editor
  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to:
    Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\Search Everything...\command
  • Is this key missing?
  • What is the (Default) data for this registry key?

Unfortunately I have the same problem. I did upon the instructions above but still nothing in my folder context menu.

Default value:

Code: Select all

"D:\Portable Programs\Everything\Everything.exe" -path "%V"
BTW, I don't have "Open in new window" and "Pin to Quick access" shown in the context menu when you right click a folder in Explorer.

I guess you have some problems in your registry or a misbehaving context menu extension.
This 2 entries are always shown by Windows Explorer for normal folders.

Please try temporarily disabling any folder context menu shell extensions with ShellExView.

@void
Thanks a lot! I disabled, my missed context menu items including "search everything" were back, I enabled and they are still available. Don't know what was my root problem.

After examining more, I noticed although my previous missed items are now back but some of my previous shown items are not available.

There was most likely a shell extension causing the trouble.

7zip menus can be re-enabled from 7zip -> Tools -> Options -> 7-Zip -> Integrate 7-Zip to shell context menu.

I encountered this problem and finally was able to resolve it. I was using Search Everything in Windows 10 but I am now running Windows 11. When you right click in a folder click on Show more options. Search Everything will now appear.
