program won't start anymore

Ever since i updated win 10 to the latest version , everything won't start anymore no mater what i do , even the portable won't start . the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version . I wonder if i could get an older version to work ?

Where can i find an older version ?

also i can't reinstall the program anymore . when i reinstall it goes through the regular process but actually does not make an installation folder and does not make a shortcut on the desk top and the program does not show up in the start meny . It's really messed up it's like it pretends to install and actually does nothing .

What is this "latest version"?

Are you (your User) running as an Administrator?
Are you running Everything as Administrator?
Are you (were you) using the Everything Service?

You can get the Windows version by excuting winver (after Win+R to activate the runbox)

i run admin and non admin in the past it was working before the latest 1803 win 10 .

Now nothing works even trying to run as admin . Like i said i uninstalled the everything program and i can't reinstall it anymore . I says it installed but nothing is there in the prgrgam files and no desk top icon shows . As i said it's like it pretends to install .

Everything runs fine here under win 10 1803.
Try to uninstall Everything completely´
and then download and run the portable version from a dir like c:\tools\Everything.

So, to be clear:
- if you run the setup, you are not presented with installation choices?
- There is no Everything in Add/Remove programs? (run appwiz.cpl to check).
- There is no Everything icon in the systemtray (probably hidden at first; expand the list to view all of them)?
- There is no Everything foledr unde c:\Program Files / C:\Program Files (x86)?

In that case, I'll write a script for you to clean up all remainders of previous installations/experiments so that you can start clean.

Just tried the installer (Everything-1.4.1.895.x64-Setup.exe) and noticed that when you choose "Run as administrator" during setup, you don't get to see the startmenu entries, as they are created in the startmenu of Administrator! (That was unexpected ...)

Sounds like Everything is being blocked by your anti-virus?

What anti-virus do you have?
Please try adding an exception for Everything.exe.

Just tried the installer (Everything-1.4.1.895.x64-Setup.exe) and noticed that when you choose "Run as administrator" during setup, you don't get to see the startmenu entries, as they are created in the startmenu of Administrator! (That was unexpected ...)

That's a bug in the installer. The installer should have been installing the start menu shortcuts as the current user, not as administrator. Same issue applies to the Desktop shortcut.
Added to my Things to fix list.

Hi Just to be clear ,

There is nothing to uninstall since i already unintalled everything the first time that i could not run the program . Since then i have tried running the portable for version 32 bit and 64 bit and it does nothing and it does not run at all . I have tried to install quite a few version of 32 bit and 64 bit but as i said it pretends to install but leaves no trail on my computer , it leaves nothing in the start menu and nothng in the prgram files and nothing on the desktop .

Maybe you could send me that clean up tool as maybe there is some freaky stuff in the regestry .

To be clear, the UI does not show at all?

Does Everything.exe show as process in Task Manager?

As asked, A/V?

Reboot your computer?
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode?
Any difference there?

Where ever Everything installs to (by default, which I'm not sure of offhand) & likewise where it stores its settings, rename said directories (something like dirname.OLD) such that a new attempt to (run|install) Everything does not see them at all.

(Likely to find install locations starting here, http://www.voidtools.com/forum/viewtopi ... 456#p22456.)

no ui even tried rebooting many times and nothing not even in task manager and nothing like i said it's like program pretended to install nut actually puts no trace on my computer

Please explain what i should do in safe mode ?

BTW: Everything does not do very much in the registry that might block a new installation (possible exeption: the Everything service)

Restart computer in Safe Mode.
Click (run) Everything.exe from the "portable" version (&/or see if running the installer version accomplishes anything [or Everything

]).

Download & run ExecutedProgramsList, sort by 'Last Executed On' column, see if Everything.exe turns up?

Check your A/V logs & see if it mentions Everything?

Are you a member of Microsoft's Insider Preview program?
What Win-10 build version do you have? Run c:\> winver to find out.

This should AFAICS be 1803, OS-build 17134.191 if you use the last stable version.
The latest preview version 1803, OS-build 17692.1004 (which I have on a laptop here) is not stable.

Everything might be trying to launch as admin, which might be blocked by your UAC settings, please try running Everything as a standard user:

Right click your Everything.exe
Click Properties.
Click the Compatibility tab.
Uncheck Run this program as an administrator.
Click OK.
Delete your Everything.ini in the same location as your Everything.exe.

Previous versions of Everything in case anyone is wondering.
System modifications made by Everything if you would like to try manually uninstalling.

Void : i tried the properties but run as admin is already unchecked so i tried to run it and it did not work and then i check the run as admin and again nothing works . I tried with the portable and it does not run and i tried to install again and nothing happens.

I don't get it .

Here is your cleanup script. Only tested on Win10 (although it should work on Win7 too, but there some options are undocumented)

Instructions:

Download opruimen.zip to your system
Right-click opruimen.zip
Click the General tab
Check the Unblock option (if you don't see that option, you're good..)
Click the OK button
Unzip opruimen.zip to some folder (non-Everything related, as those will be deleted)
Right-click opruimen.cmd
Select "Run as Administrator"
Enter password
Answer the questions you are presented.If things are normal, you can answer every question with Y or Y + Enter (but check thoroughly; if it wants to remove C:\ and all contents, better say No )

That should give you an Everything-free system.
BTW: You can run the script multiple times (although it will have nothing to do the second time)

Do NOT try to install Everything right after that. Instructions for that will follow.

TEST installation of Everything:

STEP 1:

Download the Portable Zip 64 bit from the voidtools' homepage (currently: https://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.4.1.895.x64.zip)
Right-click Everything-1.4.1.895.x64.zip
Click the General tab
Check the Unblock option (if you don't see that option, you're good..)
Click the OK button
Unzip Everything-1.4.1.895.x64.zip to some empty folder (let's say C:\TEST).
Start CMD
issue commands:
Code: Select all
```
CD /D "C:\TEST"
DIR /B
```
(replace C:\TEST with your folder name)
The result of those commands should be that you are now in the C:\TEST folder and 2 files are in that folder: Everything.exe and Everything.lng
Issue the next two commands
Code: Select all
```
Everything.exe -quit
DIR /B
```
You're done

Do you see more files now? What are their names?

This was just step 1 in the debugging process to find out what'sgoing on and how to fix it.
Actual installation is at least a couple of steps away. Hence my remark:

There are no other file names. Nothing happens emplies that when I run the program it's almost the same as doing nothing . Idk how else to explain it .

it does not open and no new files are created , just the 2 original files open .

Does anyone of you care do do a remote connection in my computer using team viewer or something else to fix my problem or maybe we could voice chat on skype or facebook or whatapp ?

Thanks for your help MasterMC with finding the issue.

IOBit Advanced SystemCare 11 was preventing any program called Everything.exe from starting.

Uninstalling and reinstalling IOBit Advanced SystemCare 11 fixed the issue.

I have run into this problem, Everything will just not launch. Zip.
I would like to make sure my theory is right:
Everything (1.4.1.969 x64 Win 10 Home) does not launch if you have Intel Virtualization enabled at BIOS level.
I have tested. Is there any workaround?

Scenario: I have been studying docker and had to turn virtualization on for it to work on Win 10 Home through Oracle VM. Since then, Eveything failed to open. If I switch virtualization back off, Everything opens normally.

Virtualization enabled (best I can tell)

(Dell desktop of relatively old vintage. Slow.
Now it did take an awfully long time before any results turn up.
Long enough that I thought something was wrong, opened the (debugger?), which only displayed a few lines, then walked away.
When I came back, drive activity, & debugger were churning away, & results were displaying as expected.

I'm pretty sure ? that the extended delay was due to no existing .db, compounded by system boot activity & overall slow computer [i.e., the perfect storm, Windows 10].)
