Hard Drive spins up on search
Hard Drive spins up on search
My hard drives go into power saving mode (i.e. Windows turns them off) after some time of inactivity. But when I search something in Everything they spin up again. I guess it happens when files that are located on such a disk are displayed in the search results. I have set Everything to index file size and date so I don't understand why it would access the disks. Is there a way that I can keep my disks sleeping when searching?

Not sure, but ...
Next to the filenames are icons shown. These have to be extracted from the system (if not cached)

Re: Hard Drive spins up on search
The icon requests are waking up your hard drive.
Currently there is no option to disable icon requests. I've added this to my TODO list.
Please consider using file lists, file lists do not access the disk unless you try to open or right click a result.

Re: Hard Drive spins up on search
I take it that this issue still exists?
My HDD was going bad, so I put in a new HDD & reinstalled windows.
Since then, I seem to have this issue?
From what I recall, prior I did not (?)
My C: drive, currently, I had to set up as GPT (it was not before).
In (Windows 7) Power Configuration, I increased the delay before sleep of the HDD's (I probably need to increase it more).
This Everything related spin-up happens in particular with my S: drive.
S: is an external USB connected drive.
S: has always spun down, I'm going to say in < 1 minute - that's the way it is.
(Maybe MHDD can help?)
But I don't recall (?) Everything actually waking it up simply because I've searched or scrolled down existing search results (?)
If S: is physically off, its icons "persist" (in Everything).
So why if the drive is on, does Everything need to "request" the icon (awakening the drive, if in fact that is the issue I'm running into)?
