Everything keeps randomly (?) scanning my server?

Hi, I love everything search but one problem has been with searching my server, while that is a godsend in some respects it takes a *really* long time and for some reason it does it like 3-4 times a day even though I have it set to do it once every morning (3am). Any thoughts on why this is happening and how I might get it to reduce scans to once a day?

Do you have process update directory notifications checked for the folder index?

If so, that would be rescanning the entire server when too many changes are detected.
