Preview handler for text files?

Post by PeterPanino »

Does anybody know a text preview handler which I could install to use it with Everything?

It should have the following features:

• Preview plain text files with customizable extensions, e.g. log, ini, pas, cpp, etc.

• Search and research (F3) inside the previewed text file

• Customizable Syntax highlightings

• Being able to highlight a specific search-term throughout the whole file

I'm not sure what a 'text preview handler' is in this context? Can't any text editor be described as such?

Anyway, I use TextPad, http://www.textpad.com/ which I think has the functionality you described.

The Windows 10 preview handler displays all you file types in Everything preview.
But to get all your other functions you have to open another program by the context menu.
I use SynWrite editor for this.

I use a program called PreviewConfig to register preview handlers for file types that don't have them. It's super easy to use. You can get it here:

NOTE: I am running Windows 8.1 so I don't know if it will work with Windows 10.
