Dragged & Disappeared

Post by TDoGChad »

I searched my folders and dragged few folders/images into another folder inside "everything" software ... disappeared ... not in recycle or any drives ... I tried again ... disappeared again ... where did the "disappear" folder/image went ? ... yes, I have "show hidden folders/files" enabled ... Yes, I was going to say " BAD IDEA to use this software in the first place" but I decided to ask and see if you know where it went.

try this
create 2 folders (oneone1) (oneone2) with couple files (a) (b) in it

open "everything" and search folder "one"

now move/drag that "oneone2" folder into "oneone1"

that "oneone2" disappeared.

What the heck did it went ?

I want my files back ... please.

(additional) I am doing wondershare data recovery (still searching)

(still searching)
Good news is it looks like I am recovery my folders/files back ... Thanks to Wondershare Data Recovery ... and please fix this "dragged into disappeared" bug

p.s. I uninstalled this "Everything" software for safety reasons ... I love it and it's super fast but dragging files to another folder (which normally how I organizing my folders/files like a windows explorer) ... sadly, is very critical ... in another word, this "everything" is like a ship going through Bermuda Triangle and disappeared without a cause or fixed.

I'm unable to reproduce this issue.
It is possible Everything didn't see the move because the *file system* monitors were not running, was the folder also missing in Windows Explorer?

Could be an issue with your hard disk..
I would do a backup of anything important on your hard disk and check it for errors.

Try sorting by recent changes in Everything to see where the folder was moved too.

I already try windows explorer and regular search ... nada ... gone ... I dont mind testing it ... not sure about this one "It is possible Everything didn't see the move because the monitors were not running" but I am running dual 27" monitors ... it's cleaned slate windows 7 pro installed few days ago.

speaking of gone ... I got it back by Data Recovery ... all of it ... whew !

be right back

Ok ... I am back after like at least 3 different ways of drag and drop tricks .. I started using last week ... Great program.

it updated automatic itself and properly after drag and drop ... yes, I have the latest version that I just downloaded it today then poof when that happened then uninstalled/deleted then redownload it tonight and testing ... it's working fine now ... I am surprised that I couldn't repeat what I just did earlier and neither you can, too ... Let's keep eyes on that evil tricks ... I know what I did there ... I simply moved my ebay's "photos" folder into ebay's "sold" folder then went to "sold" folder ... it's gone ... sold folder still there but no photos ... I already checked "show hidden files"

I am still nervous and not knowing if this gonna happens again ... speaking of backup ... it's almost impossible to back up every time before I use "everything" but I can always organizing on windows explorer after looking at "everything" ...

The good thing is ... it's NOT the "family" photos that disappeared :) WHEW !

I was cleaning up my duplicate folders/files ... so I can put it all into one folder and eliminate duplicate folder/files.

Everything will stay on my computer and hopefully won't happen again ... of course, I will have & keep Data Recovery which comes in handy :)

Thanks again ... it is a excellent search program ... it would be awesome to have "add-on-to-it" ... undo up to 20 (like photoshop's undo) & history with timestamp of when/what/where/how did I use "everything" (like a everthing's log activities) to recall what did happened or accidentally happened.

Thank you.
