Indexing questions

Post by phototaker »

I have read some postings & I see that there have been several questions about indexing so I'm assuming that it's a feature to which I haven't got all the answers or that I haven't found it yet. I'm guessing that what would happen is that you plug in an external HDD & tell the program to index it. Then later if that drive isn't plugged into USB it would still list the files on it & tell you that the drive is offline. Is this the case?

Many files are kept in tree formats that go down several levels. Does 'Everything" index all levels or do you have to add them as extra folders?

Thanks in advance

Interesting post.

I think so. In regard to this question I would ask this other: why do these files still remain listed when an external drive is unplugged? Is there a way to make offline files not visible?

Sorry, can you better explain?

Furthermore I'd want to ask another question: can Everything find new files in a folder that is still not updated? In other words, is a research possible without indexing file/folders?

I know that some programs like Adobe Photohop elements has the ability to index external HDD's for all of your photo's that are plugged in. So if you plug in say a 'g' drive that was photo's it creates a thumbnails which it retails even after you unplug the drive.

If you happen to be looking at your thumbnails at a later time you still see the thumbnail & if you want a copy or it or want to work on it, the program knows that the original isn't in the current location & will tell please insert drive "g" as the original is stored offline. At least thats my understanding as to how this feature works.

I was just wondering if the same feature was available to Everything.

As to the other question for instance like photos could be located in folders that are sorted perhaps as Europe, country, then city. I was just wondering if everything can index the files that are located in country & city as well as Europe?
