Color options upgrade suggestions

Post by Thy Grand Voidinesss »

Here is a collection of my various ideas for making changes to appearance of Everything more precise, easier and complete:

#1]

Under the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Item > Result List

users have access to a list of Item states. In my opinion this list is lacking such entries:

● Inactive Row Mouseover
● Inactive Row Mouseover (Highlighted)

● Inactive Current Row Mouseover
● Inactive Current Row Mouseover (Highlighted)

● Thumbnail Selected Mouseover
● Thumbnail Selected Mouseover (Highlighted)

● Row Mouseover Selected
● Row Mouseover Selected (Highlighted)

Although [as discussed here viewtopic.php?t=14884 in point #3]
that first one of those 2 last ones is somewhat covered by the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Accent Color

but nevertheless a question arises: how is a user suppose to know this? [Hence a need to add these two settings]

#2]

If the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Accent Color

affects only the appearance of focused Item and Item under the mouse cursor, then consider making it part of the overall list

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Item > Result List

#3]

That Result List is non-alphabetical and even now it is not comfortable to search through when making a makeover of colors. Thus if any new option will be added the chaos will increase if alphabetical order is not implemented beforehand. It should look alike to the [now] neat list available at

Tools > Options > General > Keyboard

[which not so long ago also was chaotically non-alphabetical] thus utilizing the

Code: Select all

|
sign as separator for precised elements. But I reckon that utilizing such pipe sign / sections approach would require a potential makeover of the whole naming scheme for all those entries

#4]

Either with or without alphabetical order that Result List should have a box alike to

Tools > Options > Advanced > Show settings containing

so that a user could for example single out options for Highlighted elements

#5]

Maybe the list available at

Tools > Options > Advanced

should contain also all settings already available at that

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Item > Result List

place?

Or alternatively: maybe all settings [including Fonts and Colors, Advanced and other] should be listed under something like

Tools > Options > Developer List

so that a user could [via its box] find them easily and thus access them very quickly? But in that case I would suggest an overall restructure of Advanced into:

Tools > Options > Developer Lists

containing

Tools > Options > Developer Lists > All

Tools > Options > Developer Lists > Advanced

and the also

Tools > Options > Developer Lists > Developer Lists >Fonts and Colors > Result List

and others, so that a user could choose on which set of settings to work on

#6]

There is an issue with the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Item > Result List > Drop Target (Highlighted)

option: viewtopic.php?t=14941

#7]

And here are my 3 previous suggestions concerning:

● new preview feature viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11876
● color palette being outdated: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11938
● lack of convenient colors comparison: viewtopic.php?t=14144

#8]

The option

Tools > Options > Advanced > Name > offline transparency

is one of the most profound ones [as it greatly affects how colors picked by the user change into their shades] - and yet it is quite hidden from the user. It should be at least on the main Result List - but as it has different setting than Items then it not only deserves to be extra visible like the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Accent Color

[discussed in this post in points #1 and #2] option is now, but it simply would need to be made configurable in such a different way / area

And also maybe change that term offline transparency to more self-explanatory like offline volume transparency [viewtopic.php?p=67419#p67419]

I would like to keep this list short.
However, I am all about customization, so I will consider adding all states to the advanced settings.

● Inactive Row Mouseover
● Inactive Row Mouseover (Highlighted)
● Inactive Current Row Mouseover
● Inactive Current Row Mouseover (Highlighted)
Everything will use the corresponding selected mouseover state for these.

#2]

If the

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Accent Color

affects only the appearance of focused Item and Item under the mouse cursor, then consider making it part of the overall list

Tools > Options > Fonts and Colors > Item > Result List
I will consider this.
It may add many more customizable states. maybe too many..

I will look into sorting these items by alphabetical order.
I will consider showing all states (so you don't have to select an item first)

Either with or without alphabetical order that Result List should have a box alike to

Tools > Options > Advanced > Show settings containing

so that a user could for example single out options for Highlighted elements
I will consider a search.

I would like to avoid have settings available in multiple locations.

Thank you for the suggestions.

If this helps, then let me share my overall experience with colors in Everything

I had changed them only more or less to my likening months ago as I realized I would need a lot of time to finish properly my GUI makeover. And I was right: now when I finally got time it took my hours trying to figure out which Item was doing what exactly for which Column under what conditions [and then testing out different shades] as there were too many of them - while on the other hand paradoxically there were also too little of them as some elements / behaviors remained unaffected [hence my list of missing ones]. On top of that the list being non-alphabetical was adding another layer of both annoyance and extra hardship to this whole task of coming up with a coherent theme [hence my other ideas for temporarily narrowing down of the list and identifying options]
