I renamed a directory tree, 5687 items, 120 directories.
High I/O, CPU, & disk access.

1. Copied same directory to a different drive (first yellow)
- did nothing further
2. + 3. This is after the fact (2nd yellow)
After the directory had fully copied, then a pause, then a prolonged period of I/O, CPU, & disk access.
(As in, after the directory had copied, this was idle time, so all I/O, CPU, & disk access was totally unexpected.)
4. + 5. Again, I renamed the directory tree (with the situation repeating itself)

There hasn't been any changes to how Everything searches for your results.

Could you please send your Tools -> Debug -> Statistics to support@voidtools.com
This information will show the database size which may help locate the issue.

Some guesses:
Length indexing - Everything might be gathering length for some files in the background.
Could you please confirm with the Resource Monitor.
-What are the reported filenames from Resource Monitor under Disk -> Disk Activity for the Everything process.

Rendering thumbnails -1360a no longer keeps render cache for thumbnails that are not visible.
Are you viewing results as thumbnails?

Paging - Everything was paged to disk and needed to be loaded back into RAM to perform your search
-How much memory is free? how much memory is Everything using?

CPU throttling?

Are you using omit results?
-If so, searching can be slightly slower. please try temporarily disabling omit results



Searching for:
!ext:lnk !/corrupt/ TheRainMustFal
then adding the trailing l:
!ext:lnk !/corrupt/ TheRainMustFall
will be instant as Everything can reuse your existing search.

where as changing:
!ext:lnk !/corrupt/ Tears
to:
!ext:lnk !/corrupt/ TheRainMustFall
will require a full re-search, which is slightly slower (but shouldn't take 1 second like you are seeing)



Please try disabling icon_blend_hidden as this will cause IO access for visible items:

• In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the Advanced tab on the left.
• To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
  icon
• Select icon_blend_hidden.
• Set the value to: false
• Click OK.

Enable attribute indexing under Tools -> Options -> Indexes.



Search -> Match Path and Search -> Ignore punctuation are CPU expensive.

you don't need 100K "similar" files to exclude, necessarily
you can do similar more simply with E (E for Everything, of course)

I remember we ran into this issue with the early Everything 1.5.0.1209a build.

nopunc and path searching is slow in Everything.
There's a lot of optimizations I can't do with nopunc.



The search order can sometimes help.
Both XXX and !/e will compile to the same search opcodes, so no search reordering is done.
