How to force a drive's index to be deleted?

Post by selden »

How can I tell Everything to discard the index for a drive and re-index it?

I'm using Everything 1.5.0.1352a (x64) under Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (with up-to-date patches).

Background:
I accidentally wiped my D: drive with diskpart. After reinitializing the drive, Everything is now listing both the old contents (dim as if offline) and the new contents (bright as if online, as it is). How can I get rid of the old index entries?

See the attached screengrab.

If I'm reading the documentation correctly, it seems that Everything is supposed to notice when many file entries have changed and will automatically re-index that disk. Unfortunately, it seems to be keeping the old entries, too.

To remove the offline D: drive from your index:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • Select your D: drive (the one showing: Offline)
  • Click Remove.
  • Click OK.

Thanks, a lot!

That did indeed remove the obsolete entries.
