1357a lost the ESC to close a Window

Post by horst.epp »

I always use ESC to close the current Everything Window.
After the update to version 1357a this was no longer working.
I had to assign it in the Keyboard settings.

Thank you for your post horst.epp,

The File | Close command no longer exists in 1357a.

1357a adds the following commands:

File | Close Window
File | Close Tab

To bind ESC to close the window:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Keyboard tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show commands containing, search for:
    close
  • Select File | Close Window.
  • Click Add.....
  • Press ESC and click OK.
  • Click OK.

Just as shown above, except you use Close Tab instead of Close Window.

Confirmed. Up until v1356a (and including all former stable releases) 'ESC' always closed the current search/file-list window.

v1357a has this assignment broken.

A little bit late if you look on the history of this :)

Indeed yes. Just confirming what I found just today. Thanks @void for clarifying. I reassigned 'ESC' to File>Close window

I have also reassigned Ctrl+T (Always on top) to Ctrl-Alt+T and then:
Ctrl+T == "New Tab"
Ctrl+W == "Close Tab"

To keep consistency with browsers and other tabbed apps.

Everything 1.5.0.1358a will now map File | Close to File | Close Tab.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Everything 1.5.0.1358a also removes the Ctrl + T binding from the View | On Top Always command.
