Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Results from offline volume no longer in gray
I have been making (too many) changes to my settings!
Now, items in the result list from an offline volume are no longer shown grayed out.
How can I get these entries to show in gray once again?

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Changed settings are listed under Help -> Troubleshooting information.
To restore the offline gray, please try the following:
Everything will also show the drive online status under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics.
To restore the offline gray, please try the following:
- Copy and paste the following into your Everything search box:
/offline_alpha=160 - Press ENTER in your Everything search box.
- If successful, offline_alpha=160 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
Everything will also show the drive online status under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics.
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately that doesn't work.
I just noticed my good instance shows results in true black
This means that in the bad instance, results from all volumes (online and offline) are being shown in gray. (Actually, it's a sort of violet colour).
So the problem now becomes is why results from an attached volume are grayed out.

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Whats the status of the drives under Tools -> Debug -> Statistics?
Have you changed the result list text color under Tools -> Options -> Fonts and colors -> Result List -> Normal?

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Statistics show:
one volume is "Online:Yes"
the other is simply "Online"
I reset the defaults for "Fonts and Colors". Now the violet color I saw for results goes to black. It is black for results from both online and offline volumes.

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Everything is not seeing the volume as offline.the other is simply "Online"
Nor is it seeing the volume as online.
Is monitoring enabled for this drive? (check under Tools -> Options -> FAT/NTFS -> drive -> Monitor changes)
What type of drive is offline? (eg: exFAT/NTFS)
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Both volumes are NTFS.
Both have monitoring enabled in Everything's options.
(By the way, surely "Online:Yes" means Everything is indeed seeing the volume as online?)

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
"Online:Yes" means Everything is definitely seeing the drive as online.(By the way, surely "Online:Yes" means Everything is indeed seeing the volume as online?)
"Online:" (with no value) means Everything is not monitoring this drive.
Hard to say why, please try restarting Everything, make sure your index is not paused under the Index menu.
Make sure this is not a mistaken folder index instead of an NTFS index.
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Looks like this issue has something to do with the volume being flagged as out of date (Tools -> Debug -> Statistics -> Drive -> Out of Date).
Possibly from changing an indexed property.
I'm looking into a fix.
For now, plugin the drive to have it reindexed by Everything.

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
I suspect that's the cause.
I removed the drive and rebuilt the index, along with a few reboots. All was well again and the "Online:Yes" entry is now correct.

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Everything 1.5.0.1344a fixes an issue with out of date volumes being treated as online.
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Everything 1.5.0.1345a improves detecting volumes as online/offline.
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
This problem of the offline results not showing in gray was resolved but not it has returned.
My starting point this time is to double check that a grayed-out color is defined within "Fonts and Colors" in Options. I'm assuming this is something which can be user-defined.
I can set the "Item" dropdown to "Result List" but can not tell which of the "Item States" to choose for offline results. Can you please advise which one, if any, it is. Thank you.

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
There's no offline color.
Offline files/folders are rendered with transparency.
To set the transparency of offline files/folders:

To set the transparency of offline files/folders:
- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Advanced tab on the left.
- To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
offline - Select offline_alpha.
- Set the value to: 160
where 160 is transparency value.
0 = invisible.
255 = opaque. - Click OK.
Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
I tried changing "offline_alpha" as is suggested but it doesn't make a difference UNTIL I selected "Monitor changes" in the NTFS tab in Options.
The following is copied from Everything's statistics. Volume K is actually offline and volume N is actually online. After I made the change to "Monitor changes", volume K's setting for "Online" had gone from blank to YES.
I am using Everything Version 1.5.0.1355a (x86).

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Just to confirm, enabling "Monitor changes" for your K: drive fixed the issue?
Files on your K: drive is now shown in Everything with a "faded" color?

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
Yes, using "Monitor Changes" on my K: drive fixed the problem.
Yes, files on my K: drives now get shown in gray.
Conversely, after I uncheck "Monitor Changes" for the K: drive then, without relaunching Everything, any hits found on K are no longer gray.
If it helps, below are the Debug Stats for my two drives drives when I have unchecked "Monitor Changes".
(I mention this because I notice Everything keeps putting a check mark to "Enable Journal" (for drives C: and E:) on the troublesome Everything instance, even though it doesn't index those drives.)

A additional factor is that I use two instances of Everything. The other instance accesses two additional drives exclusively (C: and E:) and it also shares the N: drive with the instance above.NTFS Index

Re: Results from offline volume no longer in gray
The USN Journal is maintained by the NTFS driver (not Everything)(I mention this because I notice Everything keeps putting a check mark to "Enable Journal" (for drives C: and E:) on the troublesome Everything instance, even though it doesn't index those drives.)
I recommend leaving this enabled.
