Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
My main media player is VLC media player and I've found that when I open videos from Everything that VLC opens them in Direct3D11 output mode. This means VLC doesn't display the toolbar so I can't control anything about the video and it doesn't permit me to close VLC either and have to wait until the video ends which then automatically closes VLC.
If I right-click the video, select Open Path, and then open the video from Windows Explorer, VLC will open the video as it should with the full toolbar at the bottom.
I've also tried opening audio files into VLC from Everything. The audio begins playing but it doesn't even open the VLC interface. Looking at Task Manager I found that VLC is listed in the same process as Everything, but it's not a separate process which is why I'm guessing that VLC isn't displaying its full interface.
Is this issue something anyone can help me resolve?Re: Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
To be clear...
You click a video in Everything, & it opens in this "D3D11" mode?
You click a video in Windows Explorer, & it opens "normally"?
Is that the case?
That is to be expected (& should not have any bearing on what you are seeing).
That said..., in Everything, check the setting of:
(Default) Command is: $exec("%1")
If you have changed that, then perhaps Everything is playing in?

Actually it is showing that VLC is a child to Everything - which in fact it is, cause it was opened from "within" Everything.VLC is listed in the same process as Everything

Re: Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
Correct about the behavior I'm describing.
Double-click a video in Everything and it gets VLC in D3D11 mode.
Double-click in Explorer and it gets regular VLC.
If Everything is supposed to be loading other apps as a child, then the example I gave with VLC and the audio file is not the normal behavior I've experienced. Below is a screenshot of how the VLC D3D11 video appears in Task Manager.

Re: Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
This issue might occur if you run Everything as an administrator.
Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:

- Click OK.
- Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
- Restart Everything.
Re: Everything opens VLC in Direct3D11 output
I already had those items set the way you mentioned, but I've decided to use PotPlayer as my primary media player instead of VLC and doing so then eliminates whatever the problem is/was.
Thanks for providing me with help in the matter.
