I've set up a new computer running Windows 11. I also installed Everything as a service. However, I haven't been able to "safely remove" external storage anymore ever since. (On Windows 7, running as a regular program, there was no such issue.) In Everything settings, I chose not to include external volumes in indexing - although they to appear there.
If I check the Event Viewer in such cases, the relevant entries usually say: "The application System with process id 4 stopped the removal or ejection for the device USB\VID_174C&PID_55AA\MSFT3000000000000000000000.")
And this is the output of OpenedFilesView in such cases (F and E in this case are the external drives):
In Disk Manager, the external storage is always "optimized for quick removal" under Policies, so I just unplug the drive, as I don't really have a choice.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this? Or is simply unplugging enough?
Unable to "safely remove" external drive on Windows 11
Re: Unable to "safely remove" external drive on Windows 11
Thank you for the bug report antares,
What model external hard drive do you have?
Could you please send some debug output:

/restart - please send your %TEMP%\Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com
Re: Unable to "safely remove" external drive on Windows 11
Does that mean that you were able to safely remove before you installed Everything (& its' Service)? However, I haven't been able to "safely remove" external storage anymore ever since.
If not, if you (now) uninstall Everything & its' Service, are you then able to safely remove?
Why type of drive is this?
Re: Unable to "safely remove" external drive on Windows 11
Does the fact that OpenedFilesView shows a E:|F: $TxfLogContainer0000000000000000000x entry imply that Everything is holding something (a handle) open there?
Re: Unable to "safely remove" external drive on Windows 11
On my end, an "F:" (NTFS, & maybe that matters) drive shows up in OFV (with a $TxfLogContainer0000000000000000000x entry), whether indexed (& journaled) in Everything or not. (And does safely remove, regardless.)
A different drive, K: (FAT), is not seen by OFV - unless I actually open a file/directory on it.
