Refresh sub-branch

Post by icyhot711 »

Some context:
I keep all of my network drives to never rescan and manually go update it about once a month when it's convenient.
It takes about 30 mins to rescan so I try to avoid doing it regularly.
Most of the time I really only want 2 branches to refresh. (e.g. rescan everything under K:\EngDrw which has sub folders)

I tried to add the EngDrw folder to the folders list so I could refresh just that branch, when I search I see the same file twice. (I assume because it got indexed twice: Once for K:\ and Twice for K:\EngDrw)

There are too many folders to add everything under K:\ individually to the folders list.

Hopefully this makes sense. Is there an option I'm missing?

Thanks

Something like this might work...

[Original Instance]
Index K:
Exclude K:\EngDrw

[EngDrw Instance]
Set up a separate instance that you use to only Index K:\EngDrw
From within that instance, export its' data to an Everything File List (k.engdrw.efu).

Load that k.engdrw.efu, as a File List, into your [Original Instance] of Everything.

Then when you need to, update K:\EngDrw, & again export to .efu.
(I'd suspect you'd need to remove the existing .efu from your original instance, then add it back again?)

You can test with a much smaller data set to see if something like that would be feasible.
Never mind, that does NOT work - the exclude is still taking preference.

Another idea...

Map a drive letter to K:\EngDrw, say Z:.
That way, you can Exclude the Folder, K:\EngDrw, yet include the "drive", Z:.
(I've not tested... but sounds feasible.)

Unfortunately, Everything will rescan the entire folder.
There is no option to rescan a specific subfolder.

Is the network K: drive on a NTFS volume?
If so, please try the fast rescan option in the Everything 1.5 alpha

'Fast rescan' will only rescan folders that are modified which will significantly increase overall rescan performance.
