I'm trying to use Everything as m primary search tool as well as disc cataloger, as I find it works wonderfully in that capacity. With 1.5's new features it is even better. I posted previously about how I use it - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9064&p=31467#p31467
A few things I'd like -
- when cataloging a disc, use its volume label+serial number, instead of drive letter, as the identifier. This will make it very easy to identify the source disk. I use a lot of externals and most will show up as the same drive letter (F/G etc) when connected. I see this topic was discussed before - viewtopic.php?t=5319 - with essentially the same request as mine. I don't think its needed for Everything not to use drive letter (i.e. its ok to treat usb as fixed volume) but it should be identifiable by its volume label/serial too.
- the above id should be shown in the folder tree, which will make it really easy to catalog and keep track of disks from anywhere.
- syncing of folder tree with active item, maybe on invoking a command and not automatic if its too costly
- in the main results view, allow me to go to an items parent folder by clicking on its path in right click option. right now theres no way to do this. e.g. 'open path' will actually try to open in explorer but the disk isn't present
Thanks
Requests/questions about 1.5
Re: Requests/questions about 1.5
Thank you for your feedback defc,
I will consider storing the volume label in the file list.
For now, please store this information in the file list filename.
The file list filename can be shown in Everything by right clicking the result list column header and showing the file list filename property.
Some features that are currently in development are:
The Compare File Lists under the Tools menu. (when done, this will show missing, new and changed files)
Update file list from Tools -> File List Editor -> Tools -> Update. (this will find roots in the file list and rebuild them)
Thank you for your suggestions.

Re: Requests/questions about 1.5
For now, a workaround:
- Go to Menu:Tools > Options > Keyboard
- In the Show commands containing: box, type
file search
- From the list, select File | Search Location in Everything
- Configure the keyboard shortcut as follows:
(I used SHIFT+L, but you can use any free one) - Press OK button (2*)
- Done
