Size and position

Post by iONic »

Seems that 1.5a does not save the windows size and position. For example the last window size and position. It remembers while computer is still on, but after restart, it does not.

(Does on my end. I'm still on 1383.)

Oh, what version of 1.5a?

Seems the "Everything.ini" that holds the Windows size and positioning are located in the "AppData" folder....I hate searching though the computer for settings that should be in the program folder by default, or at least be given the option to keep it there. My opinion, of course. Also seems there are 2-3 different "Everything.ini" files, one of which is in the program folder, but lacking the size and position data. Not sure it can be placed there.

You can tell Everything where the .ini is stored - either in AppData or in the directory where Everything.exe is.
Tools | Options | General -> Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything

Or you can just use the ZIP version, which defaults to storing .ini in the same directory you unzip it to.

So if I uncheck the box for storing the .ini in the %AppData% folder, it will sav in the program directory?

Yes.
(I'm pretty sure, at least. Check it out & verify that it does.)

Yes.

Disabling Tools -> Options -> General -> "Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything" will store your settings in the same location as your Everything.exe

Please do not uncheck this option if you store your Everything.exe in C:\Program Files
Everything will not have write permission to this location.

Please make sure your Everything.ini is not read only.
(Everything-1.5a.ini for the alpha version)

If the issue persists, please send your Help -> Troubleshooting information.

Everything needs 2 ini files: 1 per-system that is located in the (read-only) program folder and 1 per-user, containing settings for each individual user account on this system. Size and position are per-user settings.
The two can be combined into one, as described above.

Thanks to everyone.
All is well now. copying the Everything.ini file from the AppData - Everything.ini file and inserting it into the Everything.ni file in the Everything program directory solved my problem.
