Control of indexing

Post by searcher1 »

Hi

Windows 11.

I have 12, 4 tb drives in my system. Occasionally Everything automatically reindexes my drives because of a crash, windows restart, etc. This takes hours to complete before i can use Everything again.

Is there a way to disable auto indexing and allow me to re-index at a time of my choosing?

Thank You

After a crash or restar

Please try increasing your USN Journal size on your main drives (drives that you make changes to often):
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab on the left.
  • For each NTFS volume that you change often:
    • Change Maximum size to: 131072 KB
  • Click OK.
This should help allow Everything to update it's index after a crash without a complete rebuild.

Everything 1.5 will update in the background so you can search immediately.

I think I found the solution:

To Stop Automatic Indexing
Go To Tools > Options > Indexes
Uncheck “Automatically include new fixed volumes”

> NTFS
Select each drive and ucheck “Monitor changes”

To manually initiate indexing
Go To Tools > Options > Indexes.
Click “Force Rebuild”
