Leaving "Enable Result Omissions" switched on?

Post by burgundy »

Is there any disadvantage in leaving on Enable Result Omissions in the Index menu?

Is that option only a safety feature to prevent unintended omissions by unfamiliar users, or does it affect the way Everything shows its results?

Enabling result omissions can slightly reduce the search performance when the search is empty.

Loading result omissions can take a second on startup.

There's no performance loss if you enable result omissions and have an empty result omissions list.

Use Tools -> Options -> Exclude to avoid the slightly reduced search performance.

It's disabled by default because it adds the "Omit" and "Omit Extension" context menu items which might be considered bloat.

To hide the "Omit" and "Omit Extension" context menu items:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
    omit
  • Select: context_menu_omit_results
  • Set the value to: None
  • Click OK.
