Blurry PDF Previews

Post by allenzandi »

I have an issue where the preview of my PDF files are blurry, making the text unreadable.
I have coworkers that don't have this issue, with the exact same setup as me.

We all have both Acrobat Reader and PDF-XChange installed.
Windows 11
Just updated to Everything 1.4.1.1024, I am unsure what version I had before. (This issue was on both versions).

If you have Acrobat Reader and PDF-XChange installed, it isn't clear what tool makes the preview.
Try the XCShInfoSetup.exe tool, to configure it as PDF preview.
Found by default under C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions\XCShInfoSetup.exe.
This works perfect here.

Please make sure the system is not scaling Everything:
  • Right click your Everything.exe or a shortcut to Everything
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Click Change high DPI settings.
  • Uncheck Use this setting to fix scaling problems for this program instead of the one in settings.
  • Uncheck Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  • Click OK.

If the issue persists, force DPI scaling to be performed by Everything:
  • Right click your Everything.exe or a shortcut to Everything
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the Compatibility tab.
  • Click Change high DPI settings.
  • Uncheck Use this setting to fix scaling problems for this program instead of the one in settings.
  • Check Override high DPI scaling behavior.
  • Change Scaling performed by to: Application.
  • Click OK.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
If you make any changes above, please try restarting your PC (or kill the pdf preview host process)

Does the issue persist?
