Bookmarks in side-panel have inconsistently appliance of colors [SOLVED]

Post by Thy Grand Voidinesss »

Under the

Tools > Options... > General > Fonts and Colors > Item > Bookmarks Sidebar > Selected
Tools > Options... > General > Fonts and Colors > Item > Bookmarks Sidebar > Inactive Selected

user can choose colors for highlights for that sidebar which can be turned on under

View > Bookmarks

[please do choose some colors for below test purposes]

But there is an inconsistency of applying / displaying of these colors. Because ordinary Bookmarks created just for e.g. plain paths like

Code: Select all

C:\
D:\test\
behave differently when selected and hovered upon than "zooming" Bookmarks created by going to

Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks... > New > Search > Custom

and entering values like

Code: Select all

/zoom=75
/zoom=100
/zoom=125

The selected/inactive-selected colors are expected.

The selected state is used when the item is selected and the bookmarks sidebar has focus.

The selected state is used when the item is selected and the mouse cursor is hovering over the item.
This state is used even when the bookmarks sidebar does not have focus.
Is this undesired?

The inactive-selected state is used when the item is selected and the bookmarks sidebar does not have focus.

Otherwise, the normal state is used.

Opening a "c:\" bookmark will focus the search.
Opening a /search-command will keep the focus in the bookmarks sidebar.

I think I am having a trouble understanding. I see no difference in applying of colors in that Bookmarks side panel when I go back and forth with my focus between it and the main window with list of items

And are you actually asking me how in my opinion it should work or just rhetorically pointing out how things work and will continue to be:

I am seeing the expected colors for selection and inactive selection.

Please send screenshots to help clarify the issue.

What are you settings under Tools -> Options -> Fonts and colors -> Item = Bookmarks Sidebar?

Recently you have received from me my whole settings. And when using them you have no difference in appearance of Bookmarks in their side panel after turning it on using the

View > Bookmarks

option? Please select e.g. ZOOM 100% and for comparison any other non-ZOOM Bookmark listed within that panel - you should get orange name for the latter turning to red when hovered upon and always red text when having selected a ZOOM one

As for this

voidtools does not keep any user data.

Selection and inactive selection override the mouseover state.

Thank you for the ini.

I am seeing the expected colors.

The search box will be focused when opening a bookmark with a normal search. (eg: d:\test\ )
The bookmark sidebar will remain focused when opening a bookmark with a search command. (eg: /zoom=75 )

The selected text is Red when hovering over the bookmark sidebar selection.
The selected text is Orange when the bookmark sidebar is inactive.
The selected text is Red when the bookmark sidebar is active.

What colors are you expecting?

Why is it always red for e.g. ZOOM 100% until I pick some non-ZOOM one but orange for every other [i.e. a non-ZOOM one]? Should not those ZOOM-ones also succumb to becoming orange? Or alternatively remain red when some other non-ZOOM one is also being active - i.e. to be shown as being active [thus in red] when also other ["normal" one] is active [shown in red]?

Or even better: should not these ZOOM-ones be shown being red only when they are clicked and still have focus / highlight on them? Because I think I finally understand how this works - and where from the confusion has come

Please check what control has focus after opening your bookmark.

Is it the search box or the bookmark sidebar?

It's possible your bookmark has an empty search.
Check your zoom bookmarks and make sure they are all single line bookmarks. (the bookmark search edit will show only one line)

If unsure, please send your %APPDATA%\Everything\Bookmarks.csv

The zoom ones should stay Red as the bookmark sidebar stays focused.

Search commands shouldn't focus the search box.
This is important for bookmarks where you want to perform some command without changing the focus.

Ideally, you will want focus on the search box for bookmarks that change the search.

Consider adding /focus 10007 to your /zoom bookmarks.

For example:

/zoom 75
/focus 10007

This will focus the search box when you open your zoom bookmarks.

/focus

This is getting too complicated for my level i.e. it is starting to give me a headache

But fortunately this

seems be taking care of the problem - i.e. all of my Bookmarks when accessed through

View > Bookmarks

behave in the same way in terms of utilization of colors chosen by me. So I think I will leave it at that

[But on a side note - I have spotted a bug: viewtopic.php?t=15028]
