Change of data in Search Edit resets Columns order of Filter even when Filter is not switched to other one

Post by Thy Grand Voidinesss »

Steps to reproduce:

#1] Under the

Search > Organize Filters

set a Filter with such settings

Code: Select all

Search
:\$recycle.bin\ !$I <search: | displayname:search:> columns:dm;property-system:system.recycle.datedeleted;extension;size;path;length;displayname;system.recycle.deletedfrom;name;type

Macro
bin<search>
#2] Enter is Search Edit box something like
a

#3] Rearrange by hand Columns in any way

#4] Go back to Search Edit and change that
a
to
aa

#5] Observe how order of Columns has reverted to the original one

I reckon this is not a bug but just a case of either purposely chosen behavior or a simple omission from the author of the great Everything. But I would argue that this should not be happening - i.e. re-change of Columns to default state [coming out from a reading of setup of a given Filter] should only be applied if user switches to another Filter

This is currently expected.

Everything will enter temporary column mode when the active filter search contains columns:

Your temporary column positions will be lost when this filter is cleared.

For now, please adjust your columns when the Everything filter is active.

OK

But are you considering a change of this behavior or maybe already have decided to do so but it will take time to make it so - or do you consider current behavior as being more beneficial to users and most likely leave it as it is?

It's really difficult to maintain column orders when you temporarily add a column.
Column orders get messed up when columns are not shown.

A rework is on my TODO list for a future release.

But is not there a huge difference between adding / removing Columns and changing their left-to-right order, right?

In my step #3 I was just moving them around, one in front of another, and not turning them on & off
