Progress indicator when scanning big partition?

Post by pstein »

Occasionally I need to scan (or re-scan) a big, big NTFS partition with many files (> more than 1000000).
As soon as I start Everything the scan begins automatically. Good.

Unfortunately it seems to run very very long. After 10 minutes its still running.

Maybe its because some other tools consume CPU load or disk IO or whatever.

So what I need here is a kind of progress indicator in the Everything status bar.
Either "17% scanned" or "134636 files scanned" should be displayed and updated by Everything in order to recognize progress and not freezing.

Can this be added in the next release?

BTW: If I run Everything on a Notebook with battery: Is there a Power Scheme parameter which slows down scanning?

Indexing 1 million files should take less than a second.

Sounds like an IO issue.
See if the issue persists when there's nothing being written to your disk.

A progress bar is on my TODO list.
Thank you for the suggestion.

It's possible.
Indexing shouldn't use much CPU.
However, this might be limiting IO access from Everything.

dear David
i think that
"Indexing 1 million files should take less than a minute"
is correct.
