The newly added [in version 1.5.0.1353a] option of
Tools > Options... > Advanced > findbar_search_edit_wide
does work but it requires a closing and reopening of the Find Bar - i.e. user is unable to see a change in width of the box for filtering expressions despite clicking the Apply button

The next alpha update will apply the search edit width immediately.
