search on multiple server over ETP

Post by tytn »

It is possible to search and connect to multiple server over ETP at the same time in one everything-windows ?

Maybe similar to "everything.exe -connect <user>:<password@<server 1>:<port> -admin-server-share-links -connect <user>:<password@<server 2>:<port> -admin-server-share-links" etc. or over everything.ini?

Currently, no, I'll be adding support for this in Everything 1.5.
The plan is to add ETP servers to your local index from Tools -> Options -> Indexes.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Does this mean, i do not need to input the passwort for the ETP connection every time i start everything?
Would be a great feature.

Thanks for this neat software!!

You can do that now, just use the following format for your ETP host:
username:password@server:port

To make Everything automatically connect to your ETP server:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Home tab.
  • Change index to ETP server.
  • Set ETP server to: username:password@server:port
where username is your ETP server username and password is the password and server is the ETP server computer name. the :port part can be omitted if you are using the default port.
    For example: user:pass@etpserver
  • Click OK.

Thanks, but then i am missing my local files.

I use the server to Index our fileserver for all Workstationsn no need to have every Workstation scan a Folder(SMB-share) every 10 Minutes.
I'll just publish a shortcut with "-connect" till the release of 1.5.

The same quick connect format can be used in your shortcut:
Everything.exe -connect username:password@server:port

For example:
Everything.exe -connect username:password@etpserver

hi void,

is version 1.5 still planned or has development stopped? Sorry to ask, I suppose it might be annoying to get asked this too often but since I can't find any hint as to the version release roadmanp and first statements regarding 1.5 popped up several years ago I'm simply too curious about all the stuff that's supposed to get put into 1.5.
This (connecting various etp servers + local database) is also very interesting for us.

a guess is better than nothing - or maybe just a "when it's done" :D

regards & kudos, I'm hooked!

You're not the first to ask :)

BTW: This is what is on the todo-list for version 1.5!

(
For simplicity, lets say that each bullet on that list takes a week as it has to be done next to a day job and a normal life and requires a lot of research, trying different methods, different technologies, testing, ...
There are currently 476 items on that list (and that is not even complete), so my guess for the E.T.A. is ... tomorrow at 07:12.
Australian time, of course :D

Wanted to check in on this, especially being able to search an etp server plus my local computer at the same time?

Please try the Everything Server

The Everything Server allows you to:
  • Share a centralized index with multiple users.
  • Keep client indexes up to date.
  • Create path remappings.
  • Limit access with user credentials.

I'm not looking to run this on a server, I just wanted to be able to search my laptop and desktop simultaneously, both of which are running everything.

I can point one to the other, but then it only shows me the files from the remote machine, not the files on my local machine.

I have the same issue here- I've installed everything on my main server and connected to it via ETP, but this disables the local database. Is there no way to search both at the same time?

Not using FTP. However, Everything 1.5 has a new feature: Everything Server

Your Everything client can "subscribe" to one or more Everything Servers adn updtaes on these servers are send real-time to the subscribed clients.
