Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
Good Day, (love your software, thx)
I've connected my external drive, call it "G\": to clean up some of my media files, etc
now if I click on Name field, it will sort by name, all good..
if I click on Size field, it will sort high size to low size, I can see all my files, great!
here is the kicker, if I sort by PATH , it shows ONLY folder names in my G: , but it is NOT displaying files I know I have sitting there in its root directory.
(when I sort by name, it is there, but path no longer sorted)
if I search for the filename, it appears, and showing path G:
my purpose for the exericse this morning was to create folders etc, and move things away from the parent G: but alas some of the files are not showing up when I sort by path...
is this a bug, or intentional? how can I work around this?
I'm using ver. Version 1.4.1.1022 (x64)
much thanks,

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
sorry still not solved, but if I change search menu from 'everything' to 'video' , then I can see the select .mkv files suddenly appear in path G:\
I would/should like to see them with the default choice as 'everything'

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
When sorting by path, the folders are on top and files are at the bottom.
I suspect that when scrolling to the bottom, you will see your files.
To see only files in the resultlist, use the following search:
Everything 1.5 has an option to mix files and folders when sorting.

thank you, simply entering as search - G:\ file:
it now shows all files as I sort by path, starting with simply root G:\, then sorted by folder path names
note: I realize prior that it showed folders first, and files after, but it still did not show the files in root G:\

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
To make sure: Mystery solved and now it does show the files in the root of G:\ ?
Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
yes, but only "G:\ file:" (when sorted by path)
"G:\" (default exploration) will NOT show the root files (when sorted by path)
I can accept inputting G:\ file:
thank you

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
furthermore, thank you for your discovery to alpha version 1.5.0.1340a (x64)
the below is all I had to do
to mix files and folders:
In Everything, from the View menu, under the Sort By submenu, check Mix files and folders.
now simply "g:\" shows everything , and whilst sorted by path. as was my wish from initial post

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
also , what functions well is ==> parent:g: , this shows folders first, followed by any files in root g:
(imo, I would suggest to fix default search "g:\" to include files inside root/parent directory automatically)

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
It would surprise me if those files would not be somewhere in the list already.
What happens when you search for G:\ and a part of one of teh filenames in the root?
Example for C:-drive:
should report pagefile.sys.

Re: Sorting by path, does not show files in parent or root drive.
" C:\ pagef " should report pagefile.sys. ==> yes it does.
" C:\ " (while sorted by path) ==> yes , I see c:\ root individual files. (pagefile.sys and others are showing)
but this exercise did not show my files in g:\ root (external USB drive) , yesterday.
thanks.

I guess your external USB drive is not NTFS formattedcaliabb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 6:51 pm " C:\ pagef " should report pagefile.sys. ==> yes it does.

and you didn't configure folder indexing for it.
So there will be no entries for it in the index.
