"Everthing server" vs. "Network drives" vs. "Folders"

Post by Laus »

Hi!

I have two computers running Everything 1.5 on W10. On one computer I need to index a share from the other computer.
I see at least three option:
  • Network index (with Everything server running on second computer)
  • Network drives (share mapped to drive letter)
  • Folders (using unc path)
What's the pros/cons of either way.

Thanks for reading, Laus

Network index:

Pros:
Fast and efficient.
Support for 10,000 clients.
All changes detected in real-time.

Cons:
Difficult to setup. (Work to be done here..)
Everything needs to run on the server. (Currently, only Windows is supported)

Network drives / folders

These are both the same internally.

Pros:
Easy to setup.
Most changes are detected in real-time.

Cons:
Needs to rescan daily to pickup any missed changes.
Large shares (many subfolders, more than 10 million files) can cause issues with Windows Server
More than 10 clients may start to impact server performance.
