Everything supports exFAT volumes.

From another forum, I was referred to this Wikipedia article on exFAT, because my new 2TB USB drive boasts the option to format in exFAT.

The Wikipedia article says in part "The standard exFAT implementation is not journaled" and I know so little I ask:-
Does this mean that if I formatted my new OneTouch 2TB drive as exFAT, that Everything.exe would not be able to make use of USN Journals (as we see in Tools, Options, Indexes, NTFS "Enable USN Journal"?

I ask only to see if I have understood exFAT with Everything.EXE..
I plan to format the 2TB USB drive in NTFS anyway. (Then *crypt it all).

I use exFAT on a Ram Disk as it allows me to work on very large files and continually save them without putting any wear on the SSD whilst maximising the usable file space on the RamDisk, but I'd generally avoid it on something I want to be durable...

With old DataRAM disk I don't get much of a choice!

I started the NTFS 2TB format late afternoon yesterday, and it should be finished Real Soon Now

While it is running I have had time to think: I am probably going to use the 2TB as two x 1TB encrypted partitions, and the encryption programs give me a choice of NTFS and others.
Each 1TB encrypted partition will be completely encrypted.

In retrospect:-
(1) I should have made the 1TB partitions before formatting
(2) Formatting 2TB and then partitioning is one of my more stupid decisions this week
(3) I suppose that the *crypt programs don't really bother with the native formatting, so that too would have been a waste of time

I use a DataRAM RAMdisk too and chose Unformatted.
The disk can be formatted and assigned a driveletter in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc).


IMdisk, another RAM-drive software, aslo can have drives formatted as NTFS

Hi NotNull, and thanks for this response. I am blaming all delays in responding on Win11(evil grin)

My Ram Disk is used afresh each morning when I reboot. I had never really thought about this, but the RamDisk software must be formatting the ram disk each time I reboot, that is, first thing each morning.

I see the "unformatted" option, but does that mean that every time you reboot you (manually) reformat it?

I started using Ram disks with an XT chassis 640K, twin 5.25 floppies. At boot time I loaded PCWrite and PCFile into the ram disk and could extract trhe boot and applications disks and use both drives for data disks. Nowadays my main use is for browser cache and interim files such as PrtScr files being edited.

These are my most relevant settings (run DataRAM.exe to get here):

After formatting, I just once press the Save Disk Image Now button. That will be the (empty) image that will be loaded each time.

FWIW: I use this RAM disk *a lot*:
- Browser cache is redirected here
- Temp fodler is redirected here
- I test and "dissect" lots of applications. Don't want the system polluted with those.
- all (temporary) scripts start here
- Temporary Everything instances (to replay forum issues) end up here

Before rebooting I check if something is worth saving (hardly ever) and after the reboot all is fresh again.
