Hi, I am running Everything 1.3.1.636b under Windows 7 SP1 x64. Running under my admin account, with UAC disabled.
From within Everything, I am not getting any context menu on files within search results for files under C:\windows\System32
I right click the file and nothing happens. This problem does not occur for files under C:\Windows or files under C:\Windows\SysWOW64
I also noticed that if the file exists under both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 the context menu will appear (as an example, bootcfg.exe) but if the file exists only under C:\Windows\System32 no context menu will appear (as an example alg.exe).
Is this behavior normal? Anyone knows a workaround?
No context menu on files under C:\Windows\System32
Re: No context menu on files under C:\Windows\System32
A 32-bit application cannot access the system32 folder on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 or of Windows XP. (or later I assume)

A x64 build would fix this, which is in the works..
Also see Files Display With No Date.

Re: No context menu on files under C:\Windows\System32
Thanks for the quick reply.
I actually found a workaround: In Everything's file menu, selecting the "Open Path" command works without problems after selecting the file under C:\Windows\System32 in the search results. The "Open Path" command is the one I was after in the context menu so at least I have a working solution. I just find it strange that it works from the file menu but not the context menu which does not show up at all, but I figured it was related to 64-bit.
Thanks again!

Re: No context menu on files under C:\Windows\System32
Hmmmm... I thought about this further and because "Open Path" works on a C:\Windows\System32 file when using "Open Path" from the file menu, it seems to me that the functionality is already there so I don't see why "Open Path" could not also be displayed in a context menu given that the command works from the file menu i.e. it is just a different access point for a working function ("Open Path" is by far the context menu item I use the most, very useful!). Now there may be other context menu items that would not work, but why not display the commands that work?
Anyways, just a suggestion, as I said I have a workaround and accessing "Open Path" from the file menu is easy enough for me. I was just curious about this as I'm trying to learn all the subtleties of a 64-bit system, (I just very recently jumped into the x64 realm and am still learning the differences).

Re: No context menu on files under C:\Windows\System32
I think if the default context menu fails to show, Everything should show the build a basic context menu with the same items under the File menu....why not display the commands that work?
I have added this to my things to do list.
