Additional option when upgrading

I am an infrequent user of Search Everything. There are so many options for this wonderful tool, that I forget what I enabled and where I found it. Would it be possible to provide a dialog during the upgrade process asking whether I want to retain all of my old non default settings and then export them to a file somewhere and also apply them to the new upgrade?

An upgrade doesn't remove your settings.
I never lost my setting accross all the upgrades.

Settings that are not using the default values are listed in Help -> Troubleshooting Information.

In the 1.5 alpha realm, there have been at least hotkey assignments lost, at some point in time, & listview padding changes.

One should always backup (at least your .ini) prior.
Can't hurt. And it gives you something to compare against, if needed.
(I would not want it, but maybe those who install/update might find it useful if it automatically .ini .ini.bk .ini.bk2 .ini.bk3?
Likewise, can't hurt to backup elsewhere too, externally, in case...)

Settings can be lost if you install with Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything disabled.

Backup your %APPDATA%\Everything folder.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:

• In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
• Click the General tab on the left.
• Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
• Uncheck Run as administrator.
• Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
• Click OK.
• Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).

Restore your %APPDATA%\Everything folder.

Restart Everything.



An automatic backup of the Everything.ini is on my TODO list.
