Those "thank you" smilies are not part of the default phpBB setup and need to be installed afterwrds (if available; most are emojis and have higher resolution/size)
There is a smiley, available by typing

Scientific research has shown that saying "Thank you" more often makes people happier.
Don't remember the exact details -- read it many years ago -- but my theory is that this makes people to feel more supported (someone is helping them) annd connected. And thereby happier.
So: Keep saying "Thank you"
