If we assign a hotkey to a bookmark (etc), Everything checks if that hotkey is already assigned to some other action.
If there is a conflict, the other function is shown in a tooltip.
Here, the expectation is that we will change the hotkey for the current action.
But often we want the current hotkey assignment to override its previous assignment.
For example, I have copied the master list of bookmarks, many of which have hotkey assigned.
But I don't use all of those bookmarks in my workflow, so I won't be using those hotkeys.
Instead, I may want to use the hotkey for a different action.
But this facility is not available.
If I have to override the older assignment, I have to follow a six-step process:
1. Read the tooltip to know where to find the action that has blocked this hotkey
2. Open Tools > Options dialog.
3. Click on Keyboard node.
4. Find the action that has blocked the desired hotkey
5. Click in the hotkey field and press BackSpace.
6. Press OK.
Suggested solution:
When a conflict is detected, Everything should pop up a dialog.
This dialog should offer to override the older assignment.
If we want to keep the older assignment, we should be able to press ESC to close the dialog and enter another hotkey in the input box.
Better resolution when a hotkey is assigned to multiple bookmarks etc.
Re: Better resolution when a hotkey is assigned to multiple bookmarks etc.
I have put on my TODO list to show a dialog to override the existing keyboard shortcut.
