Re-Indexing

Post by nesedenyana »

Everything re-indexes every time I restrat my PC. This takes a huge RAM power from my PC and does not allow me to work. Can we not select the number of times the index will be refreshed or how can we solve this?

How many files are we talking?
How huge is huge?
Are you indexing external non-NTFS drives?
Are there a lot of ongoing changes at times when Everything is not running?

I would think it to be irregular that Everything would need to reindex on restart.

Many files around 100 GB, including Sharepoint office files that change a lot (Maybe 100 files a day). But that shouldn't justify reindexing after restarr.

I am not sure but my feeling is, sometimes it cannot closw properly and cannot store the index in harddrive from eam, and it gets lost.

Are you indexing content from within the files, or simply the filenames themselves?

I guess they'll want to know what content filters you're using?
(No idea what Sharepoint is nor if that might be affecting things.)

Please try Everything 1.5.0.1336a.

This version fixes a few issues with reindexing content/properties.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

Please make sure Everything is shutting down gracefully when you shutdown your PC.
Everything stores its index in memory.
The index is only flushed to disk when you exit Everything.

Please let me know if the issue persists.

Last part might be the problem. I am not sure how Everything is being closed during shutting down the PC. But it definitely reindexes after sudden shut downs.

Please try restarting Everything:

  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.

-or-

Please make sure Everything has write permission to the same location as your Everything.exe

Please check the date modified timestamp on your Everything.db
Was the file updated recently?

Please make sure your Everything.db is not read-only.
Everything will not overwrite a read-only db.
