Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
"available disk space" property and others do not seem to be updated automatically. How could I Everything make updating them automatically? How could one do it manually, update the "available disk space"?

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Moved to Everything 1.5 forum.
Everything 1.5.0.1331 will automatically update all properties (indexed or unindexed) for root folders when receiving one of the following shell events for the "This PC" folder:
Non-root folders and files are not updated automatically.
You will need to press F5 to refresh this information.
If you are indexing this information you will need to select the files/folders and press Ctrl + F5.

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Oops, sorry!Moved to Everything 1.5 forum.
Okay, seems to be the version I am already using, may be since some weeks, but obviously it does not work here, so what had I to do, if any, to make that work here?Everything 1.5.0.1331 will automatically update all properties (indexed or unindexed)...
Sorry, do not understand anything. What does that mean, what do I have to do? Is there a way to make it work the way I am using Everything?for root folders when receiving one of the following shell events for the "This PC" folder:
SHCNE_MEDIAINSERTED
SHCNE_DRIVEADD
SHCNE_NETSHARE
SHCNE_UPDATEDIR
SHCNE_FREESPACE
SHCNE_RENAMEFOLDER
Search for root: to list root folders.
So press that now / here(?):You will need to press F5 to refresh this information.
And why (if the porperties are (re)indexed / updated automatically?)?
Nothing seems to change. The wrong values are shown further on.You will need to press F5 to refresh this information.
Does Everything show the same free disk space like e.g. the Explorer does?
Only the selected files / folders are updated / (re)indexed? Can one select the folder / drive / index in the folder panel (or does one have to select really all of the files / folders in the right panel?)? I only want to update / (re)indexe the files not being indexed (properties), not the ones the properties already are indexed (lasts quite long). If you are indexing this information you will need to select the files/folders and press Ctrl + F5.
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
What is your B: drive?
This doesn't appear to be an online volume?
This doesn't appear to be an online volume?
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Yes, offline now, 2,5", 1 TB.
Sorry, wasn't intended to show it (B:) selected, didn't noticed that. B: does not matter at the moment for my question(s).

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
From memory you are indexing these volume properties.
What is a drive that is not updating the available disk space?
Please try selecting this drive and pressing Ctrl + F5.
Only the selected files/folders in the result list (not the folder sidebar) are rescanned.

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Sorry? I do not understand. From memory you are indexing these volume properties.
I assume, all of the drives. What is a drive that is not updating the available disk space?
OK, I just will leave it like it is, I guess, someday i'll get it done.
Thank you very much!
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Does pressing Ctrl + F5 on a selected online drive update the available disk space?
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Oops, holy...just tried again, it completely removes the / these properties from offline drives at least, OK, whatever. What's the point of such?
Very sorry for asking again and my bad understanding. Why press these keys if Everything automatically (re)indexes these properties? What is the difference of pressing F5 and CTRL+F5?

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
The next alpha update will ignore offline volumes when reindexing properties with Ctrl + F5.
Did the available disk space size update for the online drives?
I haven't had any luck producing the issue here.
F5 = refresh unindexed information.
CTRL+F5 = refresh indexed information.

Because I am trying to determine if Everything is unable to read available disk space property or if this is an issue with Everything monitoring for changes to root volumes. Why press these keys if Everything automatically (re)indexes these properties?

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
That's great, thank you!The next alpha update will ignore offline volumes when reindexing properties with Ctrl + F5.
Sorry. For an external USB drive it did, if I observed correctly. It looks like the (correct) values for an internal SSD / its partitions keep staying the same.Did the available disk space size update for the online drives?
Could available disk space and related properties also be displayed in a column before / behind all files/folders (shown the same value then for the roots)? It would be much mor convenient to not to have to switch to some roots view (each time) or so to get to know the free space, etc. The value (and others) near the indexes in the folder panel would be very great / easy to handle.
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Could one use a bookmark to execute a shortcut, e.g. CTRL+F5 to update the available disk size and others of these kind of properties and automatically select all of the indexes before executing?
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Everything 1.5.0.1333a will now show a progress bar when reindexing properties.
Reindexing properties will now only work on online files/folders.
Thank you for the suggestion.
Could you please send some debug output:
Reindexing properties will now only work on online files/folders.
I will consider an option to do this.Could available disk space and related properties also be displayed in a column before / behind all files/folders (shown the same value then for the roots)?

No.Could one use a bookmark to execute a shortcut, e.g. CTRL+F5 to update the available disk size and others of these kind of properties and automatically select all of the indexes before executing?
I would love to work out why Everything is not automatically updating these properties for you.For an external USB drive it did, if I observed correctly. Could you please send some debug output:
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Start Debug Logging.
- Copy a largish file to your C: drive (eg: over 100MB)
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Stop Debug Logging.
- The Everything Debug Log will open in Notepad.
- The log should have a SHCNE event (but it sounds like it is missing)
- Please save this file to the Desktop and send to support@voidtools.com

Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
That is nice, thank you very much!Everything 1.5.0.1333a will now show a progress bar when reindexing properties.
Many thanks!I will consider an option to do this.
Yes, I will try at the next opportunity.Could you please send some debug output:
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
Is there an interval at which everything updates these properties, e.g. available disk space? If so, how long was it? And could one shorten it? Or does Everything immediately change / adapt these properties when they change on the drive?
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
No, there's no update interval. Is there an interval at which everything updates these properties, e.g. available disk space?
If so, how long was it? And could one shorten it?
Everything receives an event from the system when the free disk space changes for any item listed under "This PC".
Typically the system will send this event immediately.
Subsequent events within one second are usually delayed by one second from the last event.
There's no way to adjust this one-second delay AFAIK.
Re: Updating available disk space / size values automatically?
OK, so it should be transmitted fast enough in any case.
Thank you.
Thank you.
