Would it be possible to have a way of excluding files/folders from property indexing, whilst not excluding the same files/folders from the search?
This would help a lot as the files that I need to be property indexed are a relatively low percentage of all the files, while at the same time the files/folders that I need to search are high.
Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
Moved to the Everything 1.5 forum.
To set folders to exclude from property indexing:

- Click OK.
Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
Yes, thanks, but doesn't that also exclude the folders from being searched? I just want it to exclude the indexing of properties in the folder to speed the indexing up.
Not to exclude the folder from being searched.
Not to exclude the folder from being searched.

Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
This will exclude the folders from your indexed properties.
You can still find these files/folders in your results, except the properties will appear empty.
Please exclude the undesired folders and please try the fromdisk: search modifier.
For example:
Exclude "C:\an unindexed folder" from your length property and search for:
"C:\an unindexed folder\" fromdisk:length:>5m
This will search an unindexed folder where length is greater than 5m.
Please note Everything will only show indexed information when you use property indexing.
So while you can search for unindexed properties, you cannot display this information.

Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
The problem is, I have a lot of folders that I don't need to have property indexed, due to the very long time it takes. But I still need to be able to search within the folders.
I was thinking of an option to to have two different kind of excludes, one exclusion being property indexing and the other being exclusions from search results.

Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
Everything is really designed to index all properties (or none).
I will consider an option to index some properties and gather others.
For now, please consider multiple instances.
Have your unnamed instance not use any property indexing.
Create another named instance to index your properties for instant property searching.

Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
Thanks David, I already do this. I am, in fact, using another instance for files and folders that I want indexed, as it takes too long on my normal day to day instance.
But even in the second instance, while I still want to search most of my folders (with certain exceptions, which I exclude), I just don't need every single file property indexed.
For example, I have a folder called Tartube, which is in the region of 750mb, whereas I want to search within the Tartube folder, there is no need to have the files in this folder property indexed.
But I have a video folder, which again, I want to search in, but I do need files within this folder indexed.
I fire up the instance I use for property indexing about three times a week (or less) and I'm faced with it indexing each time and slowing the computer down. My only option at the moment, is to leave the instance I use for indexing, running all the time.
An option to choose which folders to exclude from property indexing whilst still being able to search within those folders would help enormously, and speed things up.

Re: Excluding files/folders from being property indexed
The other thing is that I'm reluctant to add to the exclude list as the property indexing starts all over again...
