Hi!
maybe worth adding to your list of feature requests:
When the folders view on the left side is visible (View-Folders), can you perhaps add a context menu item to exclude a folder (subfolder) from being indexed?
This should be an equal method as adding this folder to the list in Tools-Options-Indexes-Exclude.
However, using a context menu is way faster than jumping to the options in this case.
When executing this menu item, the search index should be updated accordingly as it does when using the options.
Thanks,
Michael
Feature Request: context menu in folders view to excl. items
Re: Feature Request: context menu in folders view to excl. items
I will consider a context menu item to exclude folders.
Thank you for the suggestion.
For now, please consider Omit Results.
You can also add your omitted results to your index Exclude List form the Index menu.

Re: Feature Request: context menu in folders view to excl. items
Thanks for your reply!
It's my understanding, that omitting results is a temporary solution, for the current search, whereas the Exclude List in options, will not build an index for those excluded files and folders, right?
So, next feature request: add two context menu items: one for adding to the Exclude List and one to add a folder to the Omit List.
And: Perhaps you can visually format those folders in the Folder View, that are added to the omitted list? E.g. grey out or add a special icon next to the folder name?
Just noticed that the result list already has got an appropriate context menu to add files (with their paths) to the omit list.
IMO, this could be enhanced: If the mouse cursor is over the name/filename column, the above context menu should add the filename (without path) to the omit list. On the other hand, when the cursor is on the location column, the path/folder should be added to the omit list.

Omitted results persist between Everything sessions. It's my understanding, that omitting results is a temporary solution, for the current search, whereas the Exclude List in options, will not build an index for those excluded files and folders, right?
You can manage your omitted results from Index -> Organize result omissions.
There is also "temporary omit" which last until you close your search window.
Omitted results are still indexed and updated.
Excluded results are not indexed at all.
I will consider this. So, next feature request: add two context menu items: one for adding to the Exclude List and one to add a folder to the Omit List.

I will consider rendering folders differently under Tools -> Options -> Folders if omitted. And: Perhaps you can visually format those folders in the Folder View, that are added to the omitted list? E.g. grey out or add a special icon next to the folder name?
However, the purpose of Omit results is not to omit a complete folder index, rather, a subfolder of an index.
I will consider an option an option to add the name part only.Just noticed that the result list already has got an appropriate context menu to add files (with their paths) to the omit list.

Thank you for the suggestions.
For now, please do this manually:
- From the Index menu, click Add Omit Result Filter....
- Check Omit files and folders (or files only / folders only).
- Change the filter to your filename
(for example: thumbs.db) - Click OK.
