Everything automatically not removing volumes
Everything automatically not removing volumes
Hello, everything is showing the H drive that I had previously plugged in on the search window via USB. I also have remove NTFS/FAT volumes automatically checked but it still showing files in the H drive but it's grayed out. How do I fix this bug.....or is this a feature...? I don't have any USB's or external hard drives plugged in to my PC

- In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Start Debug Logging.
- From the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the NTFS tab on the left.
- Press F5.
- Close the options window.
- From the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Stop Debug Logging.

The logs show the system returning your H: drive as a found "removable" volume.
-There's something strange going on here with the system returning the H: drive as found.
When Everything goes to check if this volume is a NTFS/FAT volume, the system reports the volume as "not ready" (error 21).
What type of hardware is the H: drive?
Is your H: drive shown under Start menu -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management?
The logs show the system returning your H: drive as a found "removable" volume.

Maybe this is a hidden partition?
(looks more like a phone, it could be your phone software reporting a found volume that is "not ready")

- Uncheck Automatically remove offline volumes.
- Select your H: drive and uncheck Include in database.
- Repeat for additional unwanted drives.
- Click the FAT tab on the left.
- Uncheck Automatically include new fixed volumes.
- Uncheck Automatically include new removable volumes.
- Uncheck Automatically remove offline volumes.
- Select your H: drive and uncheck Include in database.
- Repeat for additional unwanted drives.

I have sent you another email explaining in detail with pictures of what the H drive consists of, you are right it is a hidden drive because it appears greyed out

The phantom H: drive is also shown in Windows Explorer.
The USB driver for this device is treating the H: drive as a volume with removable media.
Like a floppy disk drive. The drive always exists physically, but the media might not be present.
Safely ejecting the drive a second time will remove the phantom H: drive.

FYI... Something else to check...
I had a similar issue with my (E:) volume... (I'm a new user of EverythingApp)
My issue started as repeated data in the results-list. Each file/folder were listed twice in the results-list for volume E. I wasn't sure why so I began to troubleshoot to see if it was a bug or something I caused.
I had connected one of my 8TB NTFS bkup (USB external) drives and EverythingApp detected it automatically and added the files/folders to the results-list. But the files/folders began to duplicate at some point (8TB takes time to index, so I don't know when this began). When I did noticed the duplicate entries I decided to backtrack my steps to see if this would fix the issue. I stopped the indexing, then disconnected the 8TB drive from the computer. Then removed it from the NTFS volume-list within EverythingApp, and restarted the app. This removed the duplicate entries, but the files/folders were still showing in the results-list, as active (not grayed-out). This didn't seem right to me, so I continued to troubleshoot.
I found that E: was also listed in the folder-list. This was my mistake the day before when I connected a very small thumbdrive (also listed as E:). EverythingApp didn't detect it (the auto include settings for FAT were turned off). So, being new to the app, I added it as a folder by mistake.
Once I removed E: from folder-list, the files/folders for E: (8TB) disappeared from the results-list correctly.
I will change the drive letters for my bkup drives so I can avoid issues like this in the future. Lesson learned...
BTW... for @void... at some point prior to noticing the duplicated entries, I had also ran a second (named) instance while running the un-named instance. This was run using the same portable .exe in the same folder. So in case my theory about the folders-list is incorrect, then maybe the second instance had something to do with the duplicated entries? (would this affect the same db file as the un-named instance?) Update... I went and took a look... looks like the named-instance created a separate db so I guess that was not the culprit.
I had also connected another bkup drive (F:) at some point. But I doubt this caused any issue, even tho it's a (nearly) duplicate copy of E:
