Is there a way to show the total amount of space / free space / used space (of drives not being plugged in)?

May be in the status bar and / or when clicking an corresponding item of the contextmenu after right clicking on the icons / names of the dives in the folder panel?

Currently, no.

I will consider adding this information to the index.

Thank you for your suggestion.

This works here:
  • In Everything, Create a new bookmark:
    • Name = Disk free
    • Search =
      root:
    • Columns = Name;Date Modified;Size;Free Disk Size;Volume Label
    • Click the OK button

Now when you select the Disk Free bookmark, you get a view like the one below:
2022-07-03 00_25_23-root_ - Everything (1.5a) 1.5.0.1315a (x64).png
2022-07-03 00_25_23-root_ - Everything (1.5a) 1.5.0.1315a (x64).png (11.12 KiB) Viewed 4052 times
Press 'ALT + HOME' to restore your regular (Home) layout.

Note:
there is also a "available free disk size" property. IIRC, the difference lies in possible disk quota that are in effect for the current user.

Thank you very much! That is great!
Columns = Name;Date Modified;Size;Free Disk Size;Volume Label
Can I add this somewhere like it is or do I have to set each column one by one?

It looks like scanning (why does Everything scan at all?) will last some hours (if I had known this...) and use quite a lot CPU (up to 50 %) and RAM. I assume, I cannot interrupt it. May by exiting it...no, the context menu is not shown when right clicking. While it is scanning it hardly is accessible. It cannot be interrupted by pressing "ESC", I am afraid (or else). The search / results window then just closes or fades to grey. And it does not open anymore.

Thank you. I still use both versions.

Many thanks again.

Right-click the progress bar in the status bar and choose Cancel.

It looks like Everything is using a weird (imo) way to index the free disk size /volume label: it it processed for each file/folder on that disk instead of once per disk.

The good news (after some more testing): indexing these properties is not needed after all. I updated the original instructions to reflect that.
(You can remove the free disk size /volume label from Indexes > properties)

Yes, if it is accessible and / or the window is available at all, it does not open when clicking the shortcut to open it, respectively it suddenly opened half an hour or so later.

Does it mean scanning / searching / showing a search result last longer with these new settings?

Many thanks for testing. What is the drawback or advantage of having them enabled (after the scanning now has finished)? So may be it is not bad to use them anyway?

So then I will remove Free Disk Space and Volume Label from here and activate Include Folders and deactivate Include Files?

At the moment the free disk space is not shown here (it is still scanning, but if it is shown without those it show be shown now?):

Press 'ALT + HOME' to restore your regular (Home) layout.
HOME is here POS1 on the numeric keypad as far as I know. That does not seem to work here. Is there another way to show the regular / home layout? The columns Free Disk Size and Volume Label are kept instead of being replaced with the Home view columns.

Here is shown the Free Disk Space:

But the new bookmark does not show it and the Volume Label:

Why is that? The scan is over.

I don't recommend indexing the free disk size and volume label properties.

Use the "Index volume label" property which is the label when the volume was indexed.
Everything will remember this label when the volume is offline.

If you do want to index free disk size and volume label properties:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Free Disk Size property.
  • Check Include folders.
  • Uncheck Include files.
  • Change Exclude folders to: **\**
(This tells Everything to index this property for root folders only)
  • Click the Volume Label property.
  • Check Include folders.
  • Uncheck Include files.
  • Change Exclude folders to: **\**
(This tells Everything to index this property for root folders only)
  • Click OK.

I don't recommend indexing the free disk size and volume label properties.
Why?
Everything is storing the property value for every single folder which is not very efficient.
If you have 100,000 folders, this is only ~1MB
There's a little bit of extra processing Everything has to do every time a folder is modified. (Everything will need to check your indexed property filters)
The property is only updated when the folder is modified.

Use the "Index volume label" property which is the label when the volume was indexed.
Sorry, whatfor use it?

Use the "Index volume label" column instead of the "Volume label" column.
The volume label column is the live label, the index volume label is the label at the time of indexing.

If you are OK with the extra RAM usage (~1MB) and the extra CPU usage (shouldn't be noticeable), go for it.
