Launching v1.4 and v1.5, one after the other

Post by burgundy »

I would like to launch v1.4 and then launch v1.5. (Or vice versa.)

When I try to launch the second version, the first version gets launched again.

Are the some settings I need to make sure are in place?

You'll need to use multiple instances.

Everything 1.5 should live in a 1.5a instance by default.
Have you disabled the alpha isntance?

Consider launching Everything 1.5 with -instance 1.5
Everything64.exe -instance 1.5

I didn't mention it, but I run an instance of each of v1.4 and v1,5 called MAIN.

Of course, each instance one has its own INI file in the corresponding v1.4 and v1.5 folder. However this does NOT prevent the problem I referred to with the same version as the first version getting launched.

Any other suggestion?

PS: Do I need to disable the alpha version? I do not run any service for Everything.

They both can't run with the same instance name MAIN.

This would cause conflicts when loading/saving your settings and data.
Even if you store settings and data in completely different locations, there's mutexes and windows class names built on the instance name that are global.

You'll need to use a unique instance name for each version.

Can you use the instance name MAIN1.5 for Everything 1.5?
