Parent Folders (multiple) -> Paste to common parent
- does not allow you to traverse up a tree where the the directory structures are
different - even if the intended paste directory /is/ in both structures
c:/1/2/3/xxx.mp3
c:/1/3/4/yyy.mp3
if you CUT both files, you cannot Parents Paste into c:/1/
- is it logical that you should be able to do so?
(i'd have to think about that, a bit... ?)
without that ability, it is harder to flaten a directory structure
into a common parent
Parent Folders (multiple) -> Paste to common parent
Re: Parent Folders (multiple) -> Paste to common parent
If I am not mistaken, you cannot paste a cut selection with multiple targets selected. Only a single target is permitted.
What I do is select and cut all the files I want moved / flattened, and then I double-click on an object's path column and navigate to the correct folder I want to paste to. I think pasting a cut in Windows Explorer works best to see the outcome of your operation plainly and with certainty.
The alternative flattening method is with Advanced Move to Folder and mess with the target path.
As for your question about using the common-parent instead of the actual parent of two divergent paths, as the paste destination, I would not enjoy that. I use Copy / Parent-Paste to plant readme files into thousands of folders at once. I don't want just one readme file in their common root ancestor.

Re: Parent Folders (multiple) -> Paste to common parent
Only the direct parent for each selected file is supported for Parent Folders (multiple).
Please try:
Please try:
- Cutting your items to the clipboard
- Selecting a single file only, eg C:/1/2/3/xxx.mp3
- Right clicking this file
- Parent Paste to c:/1
