Hi,
I am running Everything Version 1.5.0.1272a (x64) in Windows 10.
I have several network drives that I have set up
to be monitored and indexed.
I used the Tools>Options>Folders>Add
\\Network
Everything works just great.
So, I wondered why there was an option in the
Tool>Options>Network Drives & Network Index.
So, I took myself over to:
https://www.voidtools.com/support/every ... _indexing/
To do some reading. But I could not find an explanation.
Could someone please explain why you might want to use these options?
Rather than the way I have done it above?
Thanks a lot……

Using Tools -> Options -> Network Drives is exactly the same as Tools -> Options -> Folders.
Tools -> Options -> Network Drives makes it easier to include your network drives. (just check Include in database instead of Folders -> Add -> Select network drive -> OK)
Using Tools -> Options -> Folders to index network shares is fine for the following conditions:
Folder indexing can miss remote changes. (Hence, the daily rescan)
The Everything Server will not miss any changes and is generally more efficient than folder indexing.

- Under 10 clients indexing and monitoring the same network share
- Under 10 million files.
- Under 100,000 changes a minute.

I'm not clear on 'Network index' in Tools Options Indexes network index

You should see your mapped network drives here, so they can be added to Everything.
Remember: network drive settings are per-user, so if you run Everything under a different user account - for example as administrator - you will not see the same mappings as in File Explorer.

Network drives?
Well drives do appear in Network Drives but this Network index, is something else entirely.
Please have a look at the Screenshot i provided.

You are right! My bad ... (shouldn't do 10 things at once ..)
That is the client-side configration to connect to an Everything Server (or multiple)

Re: Tool>Options>Network Drives & Network Index?
Thanks i read that information already, i guess this is the next level of ETP server, but with possible multiple user creds.
That's all good but if the server isn't up and running, do the clients retain the information ?
More importantly is there a way to use this new server on a Qnap or Synology NAS as the server ?
That might be a future project for devs.

Yes, clients have a copy of the index. That's all good but if the server isn't up and running, do the clients retain the information ?
As soon as the server is back online the clients will reconnect and update their copy of the index.
Currently, no.More importantly is there a way to use this new server on a Qnap or Synology NAS as the server ?
The Everything Server will only run on Windows OSes.
