Searching shortcut filenames

Post by wumpawizza »

Is there a way to search for windows file shortcuts within directories?

I have thousands of directories with a various PNG shortcuts containing information but I can't find a way to search the filenames of shortcuts, they don't seem to get indexed.

Make sure you have the Everything filter selected (Menu:Search > Everything) and search for ext:lnk

Are there any .lnk files shown in the resultlist?

Ok I have just finished re indexing the drive and I can now see shortcuts when searching for everything

Is this the correct filter to be using to find lnk files? I'm getting 0 results.

Thanks your help

Your filter should work.

Please make sure you are not excluding lnk files under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Something seems off if you are seeing lnk files with the Everything filter active and no lnk files with your Shortcut filter active.

Could you please send some debug output:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
  • /debug
  • This will show the Everything Debug Console.
  • Activate your Shortcut filter.
  • Clear the /debug search. (so the search box is blank)
  • What is shown in the debug console?
(right click the console caption and under the Edit menu, click Select All. Right click the selected text to copy it to the clipboard)
To close the debug console:
  • In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
  • /debug
