Amazing Feature! This saves me so much time trying to rename the folder that a file is in. Previously I'd have to double-click the path column and rename the folder form Explorer, with much repetition.
I have a question though. I'm reading that "Hot Item" means that the mouse cursor has to be hovering over the item to use this hotkey. It won't work if I'm navigating the results list from my keyboard arrows?
Would it be possible to get a Parent Rename for the selected item?
Maybe if multiple items are selected, then rename the parent folder they all have in common?
I wouldn't want to accidentally rename the wrong line, expecting that I'm working on the selected line, while the mouse is wandering off over some arbitrary random line.

Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
In Everything the 'Hot Item' is the result list item under the mouse cursor.I have a question though. I'm reading that "Hot Item" means that the mouse cursor has to be hovering over the item to use this hotkey. It won't work if I'm navigating the results list from my keyboard arrows?
The Hot Item does not need to be selected.
Added for the next alpha update.Would it be possible to get a Parent Rename for the selected item?
Includes a bunch of "Parent" commands for keyboard shortcuts.
I thought this was already available.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I will consider this.Maybe if multiple items are selected, then rename the parent folder they all have in common?
For now, Everything will only take action on the parent of the first selected result.

Btw, does the SysListView321 just not allow editing-in-place except in the first column? That's why you added a dialog?

Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
Neat. Never knew that was there.
Just an oddity...
If you have say NTFS Index & an overlapping Folder Index (I'm supposing that is the cause & not something else that may be set in the particular Instance), i.e., duplicated results, only one of the pair of files is renamed.
s/entries/entr/, before & after.

Only the "label" (first column) can be in-place edited with the stock listview.
Everything doesn't use the stock listview.
All LVM_* messages are emulated.
It would be possible to in-place edit the parent folder name.
I'm just using a dialog to restrict renaming to the name part only.
Looks like the folder index didn't update. If you have say NTFS Index & an overlapping Folder Index (I'm supposing that is the cause & not something else that may be set in the particular Instance), i.e., duplicated results, only one of the pair of files is renamed.
Are you monitoring changes to this folder index?
Does performing a Rescan Now on this folder index pickup the renamed folder?
Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
Gosh, oh man, wouldn't in-place editing be so pretty though, and oh so powerful.
Even if you did have to prompt a sanity warning if the user gets carried too away with renaming the parent's parent folder.
I think I've encountered Edit (not RichEdit) controls that can restrict editing the left portion of text, thus protecting the portion of the path the user isn't allowed to rename.
Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
I will consider in-place parent folder renaming.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
Ah, I had; Index, Attempt, & Never rescan. Are you monitoring changes to this folder index?
But, that's weird, now I can't duplicate it?
Yesterday I didn't have a search term, just scrolled through the list of files & hit (Alt+F2, my hotkey, heh).
Today, I started with a search of 'file: cache2 89-profile' & it is renaming all the files.
Don't think there were any changes between yesterday & today.
The particular Instance is a "mule" that I only open when I'm messing around.
Re: Keyboard > Result List | Hot Item Parent | Rename
Thanks for adding a Keyboard > Result List | Parent | Rename hotkey for the selected item.
This is so fantastic and lets me really bang through renaming dozens of folders based on their file contents.
