To show the total file size:
Showing the total file and folder selection size is in development.
- In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the View tab on the left.
- Check Show size in status bar.
- Click OK.
Showing the total file and folder selection size is in development.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Many thanks.
So then the size is shown in bytes on the right side of the status bar. Can it be switched to MB?
Why is the size not shown by default? Is there any drawback showing it?
Thank you for link, looking forward to the new version.

Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Everything should show the size in bytes, KB, MB or GB depending on the size.So then the size is shown in bytes on the right side of the status bar. Can it be switched to MB?
To change the size format in the status bar, please see statusbar_size_format.
To always shown in MB:
- In Everything, type in the following search and press ENTER:
- /statusbar_size_format=3
- If successful, statusbar_size_format=3 is shown in the status bar for a few seconds.
There's a small performance hit with calculating the total/selected size. Why is the size not shown by default? Is there any drawback showing it?
Therefore, it is disabled by default.
Everything 1.5 is more efficient with calculating the total size.
Showing the total/selected size for files and folders is enabled by default in Everything 1.5.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Thank you for the explanation, very easily done.
OK, so the performance is only effected after marking the files until the total size is shown in the status bar. Testing with about a million jpg files I cannot find a difference on my slow Notebook.
Great, can't wait for 1.5. Speaking of the new version again: when a word is suggested in the search field
it obviously is not possible to change the search filter by pressing a key. Could that be made to work?
Many thanks!

Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Could you please expand on the issue.it obviously is not possible to change the search filter by pressing a key. Could that be made to work?
Are you trying to change the active filter while the search suggestion dropdown list is shown?
Are you trying to select an item in the search suggestion dropdown list with the up/down key? (This should work)
You can use Ctrl + [ and Ctrl + ] to cycle through filters.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
I enter some characters in the search field (for a usual search), the suggestion dropdown list shows up. Now I press key F9 (assigned to a filter / search) to change the filter but the filter does not change. By the way, just noticing again, does the scrolling through the filter (after clicking menu "Search") work only by clicking the arrows there? Not by the mouse wheel?
Ah, sorry, what I meant: it would be more conevenient to not to have to close the suggestion dropdown list before being able to change the filter.
Yes, I do.Are you trying to change the active filter while the search suggestion dropdown list is shown?
No, I do not then. But it works. Are you trying to select an item in the search suggestion dropdown list with the up/down key? (This should work)
May be the "[" (the same as the "9" key here) has another key on a German keyboard. Does not work here. You can use Ctrl + [ and Ctrl + ] to cycle through filters.

Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
You might be using Everything 1.4? The CTRL+[ is a feature of Everything 1.5Biff wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 8:50 amMay be the "[" (the same as the "9" key here) has another key on a German keyboard. Does not work here. You can use Ctrl + [ and Ctrl + ] to cycle through filters.

You can even define your own keyboard shortcut in 1.5 to step through the flters: Search | Next Filter and Search | Previous Filter can be found under Menu:Tools > Options > Keyboard.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Ah, it seemd, 1.5 would not be the final release but an alpha version. With many bugs respectively not running very well or so, worse than a beta version.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
I'm running the alpha since the very first versions and it fully replaced the version 1.4 for me and many others.
What bugs you are talking ?
The basic functions are running stable and didn't change.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
For most applications, I would agree with that sentiment. However, Everything is different in that regard.
Quite a few people here - including myself - are now running 1.5 instead of 1.4, without (major) issues.
Personally, another reason to install 1.5 is to find possible bugs, to help getting Everything to the next level (didn't find any lately, btw).
I think it is worth a try. You can install version 1.5 side by side with version 1.4, so you can easily switch between them.

Talking of bugs generally being in alpha / beta versions. What bugs you are talking ?
I am afraind that would not be good here because of the big amount of RAM used by Everything here. I use Everything portable. 1.4 could be replaced with 1.5 the same way like it could with a 1.4x version?I think it is worth a try. You can install version 1.5 side by side with version 1.4, so you can easily switch between them.
Re: How could I display the size of all files and / or folders in a search result?
Replacing my Everything 1.4 installation with the test version.
Everything 1.5 needs a lot of polish.
