Backup Everything index database to certain location

Post by jhon65 »

Hi All

Please how to backup Everything index database to a certain location, in order to restore it after formatting of WIndows, because each time, the Everything takes a time to index all my partitions, so restoring database file will keep my time and the database file will be already available.

Thanks

Everything.db is stored in the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Everything folder.
(you can paste it in File Explorer's address bar to go to that folder directly)

As Everything keeps it's database in RAM until you exit Everything, make sure Everything is no longer running to get the most up-to-date database:
- right-click the Everything icon in the system tray and choose Exit

You can save Everything.db to an SUB sick, your cloud provider or anything similar.

Thanks so much my bro,
please just another question, I exit from Everything, but after run it again, it hang and crash and this message appear

Image

so, which is the best choice to use?
Also, after that every time I want to search, message appears at bottom, "Updating database...."

Image

Is this creates new database or update existing database?
if update existing database, while takes time because the database already found and I have no such huge changes to take a time to update database.

Thanks again

If Everything is crashing, could you please send a mini crash dump.
so, which is the best choice to use?
Please select Install the Everything Service

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.
If the crashing persists, please try the following:
  • Completely exit out of Everything.
  • Rename your %LOCALAPPDATA%\Everything\Everything.db to Everything.db.old
  • Restart Everything.
